{"id":12008,"date":"2021-12-21T09:00:06","date_gmt":"2021-12-21T09:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/?p=12008"},"modified":"2025-10-01T12:03:03","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T12:03:03","slug":"yuja-publishing-to-the-channel-for-a-blackboard-course","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/yuja-publishing-to-the-channel-for-a-blackboard-course\/","title":{"rendered":"Yuja: Publishing to the Channel for a Blackboard course"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>What is a YuJa channel?<\/h2>\n<p>YuJa channels are the main way of organising recorded content for a specific Blackboard course.<\/p>\n<p>A channel is not a folder, but a way of assigning appropriate permissions in YuJa for the staff and students on a Blackboard course.<\/p>\n<p>Those permissions will be updated as membership of the Blackboard course changes.<\/p>\n<p>Channels are not set up automatically, but any Instructor, Teaching Assistant or Course Builder on a Blackboard course can create one.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Channel permissions <\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>All members of the Blackboard course can access any videos published to this channel (unless other restrictions are applied, for instance Display to\/from dates on individual videos).<\/li>\n<li>Instructors, Teaching Assistants and Course Builders on the course have the ability to publish videos to the channel, and to edit permissions on videos already published to the channel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"create\">Creating a Channel Link<\/h2>\n<p><span data-teams=\"true\"><span class=\"ui-provider a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z ab ac ae af ag ah ai aj ak\" dir=\"ltr\">To create a YuJa channel, launch YuJa from within the course as Instructor at least once. That will trigger the creation of YuJa channel for that course. (When launching YuJa, ensure you are not in student preview.)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Once you have created channel, you will be able to<a href=\"#publishvideo\"> Publish videos to the course Channel.<\/a> If you get permission denied error, launch YuJa from within the course as instructor and try publishing video again.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"publish\">Adding videos to a Channel<\/h2>\n<p>Any video content you create in or upload to YuJa will be stored in \u2018My Media\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>When you publish a video to a channel you don\u2019t actually move the video, you just assign permissions for the associated course.<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"publishvideo\"><\/a>To publish a video<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Hover over the thumbnail for that video and select <strong>Publish<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bb.reading.ac.uk\/bbcswebdav\/xid-26230944_4\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bb.reading.ac.uk\/bbcswebdav\/xid-26230944_4\" alt=\"Screenshot showing the Publish option for a video\" width=\"279\" height=\"174\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Then, from the list of courses displayed, click to select the channel(s) to which the video should be published.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bb.reading.ac.uk\/bbcswebdav\/xid-26230841_4\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bb.reading.ac.uk\/bbcswebdav\/xid-26230841_4\" alt=\"Select channel to publish to - Step 1\" width=\"566\" height=\"508\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Once the correct course is listed under &#8216;Selected Channels&#8217;, press\u00a0<strong>Select<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bb.reading.ac.uk\/bbcswebdav\/xid-26230842_4\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bb.reading.ac.uk\/bbcswebdav\/xid-26230842_4\" alt=\"Select channel to publish to - Step 2\" width=\"561\" height=\"544\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>A success message will be displayed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can also drag a video from My Media onto a Channel and it will be published to that channel.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bb.reading.ac.uk\/bbcswebdav\/xid-26230922_4\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bb.reading.ac.uk\/bbcswebdav\/xid-26230922_4\" alt=\"Drag and drop a video to publish it to a channel\" width=\"806\" height=\"627\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Publishing content as you upload it<\/h3>\n<p>You can also Publish to a channel at the same time as you upload content.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Please be aware that you should only do this if you happy for students to be able to see the content immediately.
