Some of the suggested methods are suitable for marking with the Turnitin iPad app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note:<\/strong> Blind double marking is not possible in Turnitin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#filter\">Blackboard Groups filter in Turnitin Inbox<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alternatives to using Blackboard Groups\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#number\">Number labelling using the Grade field<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#paperID\">Sort by Paper ID<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#date\">Sort by Date submitted<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#double\">Double Marking and Moderation<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Caution <\/strong>&#8211; Only <strong>one person should have an individual student paper open at a time<\/strong>. Having a paper open in more than one computer or browser at the same time will result in unexpected behaviour. or the loss of entered feedback. For the same reason, avoid having Turnitin open in multiple windows\/tabs or browsers on your computer at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"filter\">Blackboard Groups filter in Turnitin Inbox<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When there are<strong> groups set up on the Blackboard<\/strong> course an additional search\/filter box will appear at the top of the Turnitin Assignment Inbox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By default it will be set to <strong>All Students<\/strong> and can be used to show a filtered version of the inbox according to the groups set up on the Blackboard course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bb.reading.ac.uk\/bbcswebdav\/xid-27453637_4\" alt=\"Turnitin Inbox filter for groups on the relevant Blackboard course. \" class=\"wp-image-3443\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>When the Group is selected only those students who are in that group will appear in the Assignment inbox, even when anonymity is turned on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"627\" height=\"316\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/09\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27509\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This is the preferred method of allocating multiple-markers<\/strong>.&nbsp;A designated member of staff will need to set-up and add students to groups in Blackboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use this method:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>With <strong>larger cohorts<\/strong> of students,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To <strong>allocate individual markers<\/strong> to a set of assignments by particular students,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you want to<strong> double mark<\/strong>, different groups can be set-up to allocate first and second markers,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Where students are answering different assignment questions and these need be marked by a particular marker,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If <strong>anonymous marking<\/strong> is enabled.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Marking by Group is covered in this video:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iJYFn3S09v0?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-GB&#038;autohide=2&#038;start=232&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Alternatives to using Blackboard Groups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"number\">Number labelling using the Grade field<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Divide up the marking by putting a number associated with a particular marker in the Grade field situated in the top right hand corner of the Document Viewer in the Feedback Studio. This will appear in the Assignment Inbox. Markers can then be given a number of papers to mark with a start and end Paper ID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use this method:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>With <strong>larger cohorts<\/strong> of students,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>With <strong>larger numbers of markers<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are <strong>randomly allocating<\/strong> marking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If <strong>anonymous marking<\/strong> is enabled<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please Note<\/strong>: This method is not compatible with the iPad app to mark papers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"double\">Double marking &amp; moderation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There is not double marking workflow in Turnitin. Use a<strong> separate Excel spreadsheet<\/strong> to manage marks and data outside of Turnitin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A report can be generated within the Turnitin Assignment Inbox which downloads as an Excel file that includes the information required for a spreadsheet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This includes: Student name, Student number and Paper ID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click the <strong>Download All<\/strong> and select <strong>Grade Report&nbsp;<\/strong>to download the file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bb.reading.ac.uk\/bbcswebdav\/xid-27455765_4\" alt=\"Highlighting the Download All button in the assignment inbox on a named assignment\" class=\"wp-image-2075\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>If the assignment has <strong>anonymous marking enabled<\/strong>, you will need to <strong>copy and paste the paper IDs into a spreadsheet manually<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This options requires some additional staff time to organise and may be unsuitable for large numbers of students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For moderation please see our guide <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/internal-moderation\/\">Internal Moderation<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Blind double marking<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Turnitin does not accommodate blind double marking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where <strong>blind double marking is required<\/strong>, one of the markers <strong>will need to download the assignments to mark them outside of Turnitin and use a separate spreadsheet to record marks and feedback.<\/strong> This data will need then need to be combined and entered into Turnitin afterwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where <strong>anonymous blind double marking<\/strong> is required, the downloaded papers will be labelled with their Paper ID (rather than student name), so some additional work will be required to match marks awarded with the correct student.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This guide suggests ways in which the allocation of marking can be managed when there are multiple markers for the same Turnitin assignment.
