They can both contain Documents, Folders and other types of content, but they differ in a few ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"719\" height=\"331\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/12\/image-8.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27879\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Differences<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Learning Modules can have an image uploaded to enhance their appearance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Learning Module can contain multiple Folders, but a Folder cannot contain a Learning Module.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learning Modules forward and back arrows allow students to move from item to item without returning to the Course Content list.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The &#8216;Force Sequence&#8217; option is available for Learning Modules only.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Progress Tracking will allow students to mark items as read, once they have opened them at least once. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Similarities<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Both can contain a Folder (but contents can only go two levels deep)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Both can contain any other item types including Documents, Files, assessments and media.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/create-folders\/\">Guide: Create Folders<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/create-learning-modules\/\">Guide: Create Learning Modules<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"documents\"><\/a>Ultra Documents<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To help organise material in level two Ultra Documents can be used in place of folders.&nbsp; Ultra documents can be built up with a number of blocks to display information in an attractive and accessible way.&nbsp; The block options are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Content editor &#8211; Using the editor text, links images and embedded YuJa videos can be added.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>HTML Block &#8211; Using the HTML editor embed codes from third party tools such as MS Forms, Padlet or Box of Broadcasts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Knowledge check &#8211; Add a multiple choice question to check students&#8217; learning &#8211; not included in Gradebook but will give some use statistics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>File upload &#8211; Files can be uploaded directly on to the Document, they will open inside the Document.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Content Collection &#8211; It is possible to add content saved in the content collection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Image &#8211; Images can be uploaded and moved around the document to aid design. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Divider &#8211; Allows you to add a line divide between sections, helping students easily identify related and unrelated sections.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Convert a file &#8211; this options is will convert a file (e.g. word or pdf) in to text on the document.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"914\" height=\"903\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2023\/08\/Documents-1aa.jpg\" alt=\"screenshot of Ultra Document\" class=\"wp-image-18540\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2023\/08\/Documents-1aa.jpg 914w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2023\/08\/Documents-1aa-768x759.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 914px) 100vw, 914px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-create-content-document\/\">Guide: Create an Ultra Document<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are three main containers in Blackboard Learn Ultra that will help to organise your materials.
