See <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/copy-content-from-pre-2024-5-courses\/\">Copy content from pre 2024-25 courses<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"categories\">What content categories can be copied?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Items that can be copied using the Copy Content feature are grouped by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Content<\/strong>: Contains items that listed under the Course <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/add-content-to-a-blackboard-learn-ultra-course\/\">Content<\/a> tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Discussions<\/strong>: Items listed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/key-topic-discussions\/\">Discussions <\/a>tab and inserted in content.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Announcements<\/strong>: Lists all posts made in the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-announcements\/\">Announcements<\/a> tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Question Banks<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/question-banks\/\">Question Banks<\/a> used to generate question pools for Blackboard Tests.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rubrics<\/strong>: Any <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/creating-blackboard-rubrics\/\">rubrics<\/a> created for Blackboard Assignments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mark Schemas<\/strong>: Any custom <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/pass-fail-modules\/\">schemas<\/a> created to use in the Gradebook.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Settings:<\/strong> Contains the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-course-banner\/\">Course Banner Image<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"copy\">How to Copy Content<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"#step1\">Step 1<\/a><\/strong>: Go to the place in your course where you would like the copied items to appear and click Copy Content.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"#step2\">Step 2<\/a><\/strong>: In the Copy Items window search for the Course (or Organisation) you want to copy content from.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"#step3\">Step 3<\/a><\/strong>: Find the items you want to copy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"#step4\">Step 4<\/a><\/strong>: Select and copy the items.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#step5\"><strong>Step 5<\/strong><\/a>: How copied items appear.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-3\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step1\">Step 1: Go to a place in the course<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Always start the copy process in the place where you want the items you are copying to appear. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Click a Learning Module or Folder to open it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hover over the divider line where you would like to add the content, then <strong>click on the plus icon<\/strong> to open the Add Content menu.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Copy Content<\/strong> to open the Copy Items screen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"592\" height=\"387\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/03\/image-8.png\" alt=\"screenshot of the add content menu on the Course Content page. If you select the folder this level it will copy the all the content in that folder. This is not recommended as it copies items that should not be copied and will be time consuming to tidy up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flex wp-container-12\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 4: Select and copy the items<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have drilled down to find the content in a specific catergory:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tick the box<\/strong> beside the title to select items to copy (e)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All the items you select will be added to the <strong>Items Selected<\/strong> panel. (g)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check what you are copying in the <strong>Item Selected<\/strong> panel (g).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the <strong>Start Copy <\/strong>button.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Be aware<\/strong>: When you tick the box for a Learning Module or Folder, all items within it are selected and copied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tip<\/strong>: Use the breadcrumb trail links if you need to navigate back a level. Use the three dots (&#8230;) to show sub-levels. This process will take longer if you are copying a lot of content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"264\" height=\"94\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/03\/image-11.png\" alt=\"Screenshot of the copying content processing icon. \" class=\"wp-image-25820\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The content items will be copied into the specified location, where you clicked to add the content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All copied items will be set as &#8216;Hidden from students&#8217; by default.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/2023\/04\/12\/ultra-batch-edit-visibility-to-students\/\">Batch Edit<\/a> to make multiple items visible to student in one action.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"586\" height=\"434\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/03\/image-10.png\" alt=\"Screenshot of items in the Course Content that have been copied.  They copy as hidden from students.\" class=\"wp-image-25819\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"types\">Advice for copying specific types of content<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"banner\">Banner Image<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>To locate the Banner image click the <strong>Settings<\/strong> folder in the Copy Items window. <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-course-banner\/#copy\">How to copy the Course Banner<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"content\">Course content items<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Course content items are: Learning Modules, Folders, Documents and Files.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Copying a Learning Module and Folder copies all the content inside it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To reuse a Learning Module image, right click on the image, select<strong> <\/strong>&#8220;save image as&#8221;<strong> <\/strong>to save the image to you computer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not copy a Learning Module into another Learning Module.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not copy a Folder into another Folder.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Edit copied files using <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-add-content-upload\/#replace\">\u2018Replace\u2019<\/a> to update it with a new version.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be aware of copying large files &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=14909&amp;action=edit#quota\">course quota and reducing file sizes<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"bb-assess\">Blackboard Assessment tools<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Do not copy Blackboard Assignment submission points<\/strong>. These are setup new each time. Delete if inadvertantly copied.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copying a Test automatically copies any Question Bank\/s it uses. (If you delete the copied Test the question bank is not deleted.)\n<ul>\n<li>Only copy a Question Bank seperately if Test using it is not copied.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/copy-tests-into-an-ultra-course\/\">Essential Advice for copying Tests from a pre 2024-25 course.<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rubrics can be copied separately to attach to a newly created Blackboard assessment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"engage\">Announcements, Discussions &amp; Journals<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Settings and dates copy unchanged<\/strong> and will need to be updated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only the Discussion or Journal Topic is copied. No entries or replies are copied.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"thirdparty\">Third-party tools from the Content Market<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Third-party tools are: YuJa Video, Talis Online Reading List, Turnitin, Gradescope (and specialist tools; LearnSci, McGrawHill, Mobius, Potential.ly)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Links to third-party tools added from the Content Market <strong>now appear as items to select using &#8216;Copy Content&#8217;<\/strong>. (Following feature enhancement &#8211; September 2025.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Do not copy Turnitin and Gradescope Assignment submission points<\/strong>. These are setup new each time. Delete if inadvertantly copied.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Online Reading List links<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This guidance refers to <strong>links inserted inside Learning Modules, Folders and Documents<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>You do not need to copy the main Online Reading List link as it is part of the course template.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> <strong>Be aware<\/strong>: If <strong>links are copied before the Online Reading List rollover<\/strong> at the end of June it will <strong>link to the previous academic year\u2019s list<\/strong>. <strong>Wait until after the end of June<\/strong> to copy these links or <a href=\"https:\/\/libguides.reading.ac.uk\/reading-lists\/staff\/saving-sharing#s-lib-ctab-16250092-5\">re-link the Reading list<\/a>. (UK Campus courses only.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Yuja Video links<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This guidance refers to <strong>links inserted inside Learning Modules, Folders and Documents<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>You do not need to copy the main video (YuJa Channel) link as it is part of the course template.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Important<\/strong>: <strong>Do not copy classroom capture recordings<\/strong> made for a previous student cohort or delete the links if they are copied. (University Policy requirement.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only videos inserted into the content of the course can be copied.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Students have permission to view copied videos by default <\/strong>but they <strong>do not appear in the courses &#8216;Video (YuJa channel)&#8217;<\/strong> unless you publish them to it. <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/yuja-publishing-to-the-channel-for-a-blackboard-course\/\">How to Publish videos to the course channel<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"quota\">Course storage quota awareness<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/compressing-media-files-to-reduce-filesize\/\">file limit applied to Ultra courses<\/a>. Files larger than the 250MB limit can be copied where they were uploaded to previous courses.
