Please see our guide <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-staff\/blackboard-organisations\/\">Blackboard Organisations<\/a>&nbsp;for further information on how Organisations are used at the University of Reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Blackboard Organisations moved to Blackboard Learn Ultra at the start of the 2023\/4 academic year.&nbsp; If you had an older Organisation and had not created a Blackboard Learn <strong>Ultra<\/strong> Organisation by the 11th September 2023, students will no longer see your Organisation. Create an Ultra Organisation quickly using the steps below. Once you have the essential information up and available to students you can see our further guidance on <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/2023\/04\/10\/ultra-building-content-in-blackboard-learn-ultra\/\">Building Content in Blackboard Learn Ultra<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For all new Organisations requests please follow these quick steps to get started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Quick Steps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Step 1 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/blackboard\/bbcopy\/Home\/OrganisationRequest\">Request an Ultra Organisation<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Step 2 &#8211; <a href=\"#step2\">Add Content<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Step 3 &#8211; <a href=\"#step3\">Open Ultra Organisation to Student<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"step1\"><\/a>Step 1 &#8211;&nbsp;&nbsp;Request an Ultra Organisation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Please complete the request form to create a new Ultra Organisation: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/blackboard\/bbcopy\/Home\/OrganisationRequest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Request an Ultra Organisation.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"step2\"><\/a>Step 2 &#8211; Add Content<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your Ultra Organisation will be created from one of three templates:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#blank\">Blank Ultra Organisation<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#briefcase\">Student &#8220;briefcase&#8221; style Ultra Organisation\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>External Examiners Template<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: In each template there is a Learning Module called Blackboard Learn Ultra &#8211; Example, Help &amp; Resources, containing examples of content you can add to your Ultra Organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"blank\"><\/a>Template option A: Blank Ultra Organisation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With the Blank Ultra Organisation, start by creating a Learning Module for each content area you will need to organise the material. Start with the most essential information students will need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learning Modules are similar to folders &#8211; you can fill them with content for the students, which they can reveal and hide.&nbsp; Learning Modules can also:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Contain Folders<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contain Ultra Documents (similar to Items in original)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have an image and description for students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be set to Forced Sequence, which will force the student to view the materials in order.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Create Learning Module<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>a) In the Course Content area, hover under the hidden content until a purple line with a plus sign icon appears:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1097\" height=\"623\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/09\/1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22758\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/09\/1.jpg 1097w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/09\/1-768x436.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1097px) 100vw, 1097px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>b) Click on the purple plus icon, this will reveal an add content menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>c) From the add content menu select Create. The Create Panel will open on the side of the screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>d) Select the first option on the create menu &#8220;Learning Module&#8221;.&nbsp; This will change the panel to the create Learning Module panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"379\" height=\"623\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2023\/09\/Quick-Start-9.jpg\" alt=\"screenshot of create Learning Module panel\" class=\"wp-image-17500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2023\/09\/Quick-Start-9.jpg 379w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2023\/09\/Quick-Start-9-91x150.jpg 91w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2023\/09\/Quick-Start-9-366x602.jpg 366w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 379px) 100vw, 379px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>a) Change the name of the Learning Module.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>b) You can change the student visibility here or change it to visible once you have added materials to the Learning Module.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>c) Add a description of the Learning Module, this text will appear directly under the Learning Module name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>d) You may wish to skip adding an image for now, the Learning Module icon will appear on the Course Content.&nbsp; You can return and add an image when the Organisation is up and running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>e) If you turn on Forced Sequence, students will only be able to view the material in the order in which they are placed in the Learning Module.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>f) Save.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new Learning Module will appear in the Course Content area:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"739\" height=\"502\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/09\/2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22757\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You can open the Learning Module using the chevron on the far right.&nbsp; To <strong>add content<\/strong> hover until you see the purple plus sign icon and click for the add content menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can add your materials using Copy, upload and create Documents or Folders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#copy\">Copy content from original Organisation<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#upload\">Upload content<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#items\">Items are now Ultra Documents<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#organise\">Organising Materials<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When you have uploaded your essential information go to <a href=\"#step3\">Step 3: Make your Organisation available to students<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"briefcase\"><\/a>Template Option B &#8211; Student &#8220;briefcase&#8221; style<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A student briefcase template is pre-populate with Learning Modules, all of which will be hidden from student view. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Add the essential material for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#add\">Add Content&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#copy\">Copy content from original Organisation<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#upload\">Upload content<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#items\">Items are now Ultra Documents<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"add\"><\/a>Add Content<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>From the departmental template identify key information, such as Programme Handbooks, that students will need immediate access to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Populate these key areas with your department&#8217;s information by uploading new materials and\/or copying from your current organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"761\" height=\"474\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/09\/3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22756\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>a) Open the top layer (the learning module) to reveal its contents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>b) Open the second layer (the folder) to add content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>c) Hover the cursor over the area where you wish to add content until a <strong>purple plus sign icon<\/strong> appears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>d) Click on the icon and select copy or upload from the add content menu when it appears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"copy\"><\/a>Copy files from original Organisation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have content on another course or organisation that you would like to reuse it is possible to copy it directly into your new Ultra Organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on the purple plus sign icon and select Copy Content from the menu.&nbsp; click on the Organisation name do not select the checkbox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>c) The Organisations content areas will appear as a list, select the one you wish to copy from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>d) Check the box of each <strong>item<\/strong> you wish to copy.
