Due Date<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Set the date and time using the calendar and clock tools, or by typing directly into these fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"no\">2. No due date<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Use this option if you wish to leave the submission point open ended. This may be the case when submitting documentation such as research ethics forms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"late\">3. Prohibit late submissions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you select this option, in-progress attempts will be submitted automatically at the due date and time. For assignments this means that when the deadline is reached<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Any drafts previously saved, but not submitted, will be automatically submitted<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any student attempts still in progress (e.g. where a student is still in the process of uploading files) will be automatically submitted. This could result in a blank assignment submission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Selecting this option automatically ticks the next option, &#8216;Prohibit new attempts after due date&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"prohibit\">4. Prohibit new attempts after due date<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Selecting this option effectively prohibits late submission to an assignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the due date and time has passed students can&#8217;t start a new attempt &#8211; although late submissions could come from any student<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>who was already in the process of submitting work at the deadline<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>who had previously saved an attempt.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Such students could continue and submit the work after the deadline (unless &#8216;Prohibit late submissions&#8217; has been selected).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"convo\">5. Allow class conversations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Class Conversations are discussion forums linked to a specific piece of course content. A Class Conversation for an assignment allows students to raise questions about the assessment; responses can come from staff members and\/or fellow students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/help.blackboard.com\/Learn\/Instructor\/Ultra\/Interact\/Ultra_Conversations\">Conversations<\/a> (Blackboard Help site)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You cannot enable a Class&nbsp;Conversation if the assignment is set to be anonymous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"submissiondetails\">6. Submission details<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Select whether submissions will be Online (via the submission point) or Offline. Offline Submissions is applicable only to assessments where students will be presenting in class, or submitting a physical object, and are not required to make any kind of electronic submission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can&nbsp;specify the allowed format of submission you expect from students. The two options are&nbsp;<strong>File Upload<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Text Entry<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>File Upload<\/strong>\u00a0allows students to submit documents such as Word files, PDFs, spreadsheets, or other attachments. This is useful for longer, formatted work like essays, reports, or projects. We recommend switching off File Upload for video-based assessments, unless students are expected to upload additional files alongside their recordings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Text Entry<\/strong>\u00a0lets students type or paste their response directly into the built-in editor within Blackboard. This option works well for shorter answers, reflections, or discussion-style responses. <strong>Text entry must be enabled for video-based assessments,\u00a0<\/strong>as it allows students to select the YuJa Media Chooser via the Content Market.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>By default, both options are selected and this is appropriate for most types of assessment. Formative Assessment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Select this option for formative assignments. The &#8216;Display formative label to students&#8217; will then automatically be ticked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Labelling an assignment as &#8216;Formative&#8217; does not change any functionality, but can help staff and students identify assessments which do not count towards their final grade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Staff<\/strong> can see the &#8216;Formative&#8217; Mark category<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8216;Assignment&#8217; will be selected by default.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"attempts\">9. Attempts allowed<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Select the number of attempts that students are allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The default is a single attempt. Mark using<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In almost every case you should retain the default value of &#8216;Points&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For formative assessments, or assignments on Pass\/Fail modules, you might want to select &#8216;Complete\/Incomplete&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"max\">11. Maximum Points<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This should normally be set to 100.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"anon\">12. Peer review<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Peer review is a function that allows for an assessment workflow where the students are asked to mark each other&#8217;s work as part of the assessment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tick to enable Peer Review. Delegated marking<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Delegated marking function allows for groups of markers to share the marking load.  Markers can access only their groups&#8217; submissions.
