Formative assessment does not need to follow these processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#project\">EMA Programme 2017\/20<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#integration\">EMA Integration<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#consider\">Integration consideration<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#modes\">Modes of Submission<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"project\">EMA Programme 2017\/2020<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>An extensive project, the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/electronic-management-of-assessment-ema\/\">EMA Programme<\/a>, ran from January 2017 until January 2020 resulted in more consistent, effective and efficient approaches to electronic management of assessment were developed across the University to help improve the student and staff experience.&nbsp;This included, as standard:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>The majority of summative coursework being graded, moderated and feedback provided online.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improvements to key systems and processes, including movement towards <strong>greater integration between Blackboard and RISIS<\/strong>, to allow information to flow between systems more easily.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Individual assessment data (or sub modular marks data) being available online, to be used in a variety of ways to support the assessment and feedback process,&nbsp;including the development of a range of new assessment reports.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A consolidated view of individual student progress being available to students and appropriate staff.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"integration\">EMA Integration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>EMA Integration involves<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>the automatic transfer of assessment and reassessment records from RISIS to Blackboard<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the automatic transfer of sub modular marks from Blackboard back to RISIS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2018\/12\/Integration-simple-workflow.png\" alt=\"EMA Integration simple workflow\" class=\"wp-image-4083\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2018\/12\/Integration-simple-workflow.png 1280w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2018\/12\/Integration-simple-workflow-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2018\/12\/Integration-simple-workflow-150x84.png 150w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2018\/12\/Integration-simple-workflow-366x206.png 366w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2018\/12\/Integration-simple-workflow-770x433.png 770w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>In practical terms this involves the programme administrators working in RISIS and Blackboard or coordinate this integration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In RISIS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Administrators add the submodular assessment details into RISIS \n<ul>\n<li>Assessment type<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deadline<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Points Possible<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mode of submission<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Administrators flag that the submodular assessment is ready for integration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In Blackboard<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Integration provides a weighted column, Gradebook item (manual column) or a submission point in Blackboard, depending of the Mode of Submission <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assessment happens in Blackboard &#8211; Students submit, Markers mark<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Administrators ensure the RISIS columns (Gradebook columns with the prefix [IC]) are populated with the marks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Administrators approve and extraction of the marks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In RISIS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Integration extracts the marks from Blackboard and transfers them to RISIS<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any late penalties etc. are added to individual marks directly in RISIS, by the administrator<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"consider\">Integration considerations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Before mark entry can start students to be enrolled\/re-enrolled and be settled on their modules (module switching period needs to have closed) before sub modular mark entry can be made available.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Integration will switch to the new semester\/year after week three of semester 1 and 2. This process is known as SAS1B and is a RISIS process. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Until SAS1B is performed no IC items will be provided in the new year\/semester course. After SAS1B only IC items in the current (new) year\/semester can be transferred to RISIS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"modes\">Modes of Submission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a list of <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/risis-modes-of-submission\/\">Modes of Submission<\/a>, which attempt to cover most types and routes of assessment in the University. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mode of Submission dictates what is provided in Blackboard for that specific assessment.
