This means: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>when you Post Marks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or for Turnitin assignments, when the Feedback Release Date has been reached.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is true even if you have applied Release Condition rules which mean that students can no longer access the submission point itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The only way to prevent students from seeing marks and feedback, once released, is to Hide the assessment &#8211; <a href=\"#hidden\">see below<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Assessments with Release Conditions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Date-based Release Conditions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Example: Assessment submission point where the &#8216;Hide After&#8217; date is in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students can see the submission point in the Assessment content area, but not access it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"467\" height=\"178\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/04\/Assessment-no-longer-available.png\" alt=\"Assessment no longer available to students\" class=\"wp-image-20379\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Students can still see their mark, and access their feedback, via the Gradebook, once it has been posted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1031\" height=\"117\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/04\/Assessment-no-longer-available-Gradebook.png\" alt=\"Assessment no longer available - student view of the Gradebook\" class=\"wp-image-20378\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/04\/Assessment-no-longer-available-Gradebook.png 1031w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/04\/Assessment-no-longer-available-Gradebook-768x87.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1031px) 100vw, 1031px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This enables you to set a &#8216;Hide After&#8217; date to prevent new submissions after a certain date, but without removing students&#8217; ability to see their marks and feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note*<\/strong> for students to see their submission and any feedback (automated or manually input) the test will need to be available on the Course Content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Membership-based Release Conditions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Example: Assessment submission point visible only to specific students or Groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students not specified in the Release Conditions cannot see the submission point, nor does it show up in their view of the Gradebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This ensures that students&#8217; views of Blackboard course content and the Gradebook are not cluttered up with assessments which are not aimed at them, and which they do not need to complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note: If the Release Conditions were applied <em>after <\/em>a student had submitted, they would be able to see their marks and feedback in the Gradebook. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Activity-based Release Conditions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Example: the submission point is only visible to students who met or exceeded a specific score on another assessment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The submission point is visible, but cannot be accessed by students who do not meet the Release Conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"567\" height=\"163\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/04\/Assessment-with-performance-conditions.png\" alt=\"Assessment with performance conditions\" class=\"wp-image-20377\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The assessment is also visible in the Gradebook, but as the student cannot submit, there will be no mark or feedback in this situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"472\" height=\"58\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/04\/Assessment-with-performance-conditions-Gradebook.png\" alt=\"Assessment with performance conditions - student view of the Gradebook\" class=\"wp-image-20380\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"hidden\">Assessment Hidden<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The above rules work well for coursework, where you would only want to hide marks and feedback in exceptional circumstances. However they do not work so well for <strong>Exams<\/strong>, where individual students do not receive feedback, and only ever see their mark in RISIS, not in Blackboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before the Assessment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When the submission point is<strong> inside a folder<\/strong>, which is hidden by an adaptive release rule the students can not access it via the Course Content or the Gradebook. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-3\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"643\" height=\"324\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/12\/image-5.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25098\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"643\" height=\"324\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/12\/image-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25097\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">After the Assessment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once marks have been posted they will be visible in the Gradebook, even when release conditions are keeping them hidden. You will have to post the marks to lift anonymity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need to ensure that students cannot see their marks or feedback, such as with the case of exams, the only way to do this is to <strong>Hide<\/strong> the assessment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"311\" height=\"98\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/04\/Assignment-Hidden.png\" alt=\"Assignment hidden from students\" class=\"wp-image-20382\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p> This ensures that the submission point cannot be seen in the Assessment area, nor is it visible to students in the Gradebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The simplest way to hide an assessment is from the Assessment content area &#8211; simply change the visibility settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"319\" height=\"227\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/04\/Hide-Assessment-from-content-area.jpg\" alt=\"Hide an Assessment from a course content area\" class=\"wp-image-20383\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also do this from the Gradebook.
