{"id":22397,"date":"2024-08-15T09:31:25","date_gmt":"2024-08-15T09:31:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/?p=22397"},"modified":"2024-10-11T14:11:28","modified_gmt":"2024-10-11T14:11:28","slug":"extra-time-accommodations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/extra-time-accommodations\/","title":{"rendered":"Extra time accommodations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The<strong> Accommodations<\/strong> function in Blackboard Ultra allows you to set the extra time a student taking a timed assessment using Blackboard Tests or Assignments on the course, in line with their reasonable adjustments as advised by Disability Advice Service (DAS). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important Note:<\/strong> The Accommodations feature <strong>does not apply extra time for third party assessment<\/strong> <strong>tool Gradescope<\/strong> and <strong>Mobius<\/strong>. Extra time needs to be setup separately in these tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#set\">Set a time limit accommodation<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#das\">DAS recommendations as a percentage<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#no\">Accommodations &#8211; not recommended for use<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"set\">Set a time limit accommodation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Accommodations are set at course level for individual students and will automatically adjust the time a student has for every Blackboard assessment tool where a time limit can be added (Tests and Assignments).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These instructions describe <strong>how to set time limit accomodations for summative assessments<\/strong> using a percentage (but the accomodation will apply to any timed assessment created in the course).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#step1\">Step 1: Open the accommodations panel for the specific student<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#step2\">Step 2: Apply time limit accommodation as a percentage<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#step3\">Step 3: Save and return to student list<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step1\">Step 1: Open the accommodations panel for the specific student<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>(a)<\/strong> Go to the Gradebook, open the Students tab and locate the student you wish to grant an accommodation for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>(b)<\/strong> You can use the search function on this tab to locate the student in a large cohort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>(c) <\/strong>Click on the three dot menu for the student and select Accommodations from the menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/08\/Accommodations-1-1.png\" alt=\"Ultra Gradebook opened on the Students tab. These are additional time and rest breaks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where <strong>additional time<\/strong> is given for SpLDs or other needs it is usually <strong>stated as a percentage<\/strong> and can be added directly into the &#8216;Custom percentage&#8217; function. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A student may also be entitled to <strong>rest breaks <\/strong>and is<strong> indicated as minutes<\/strong> <strong>per hour.<\/strong> This need to be converted to a percentage to be entered as an accomodation, and where required, added to any additional time percentage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important<\/strong>: The standard rest break is 10 minutes per hour (17% rounded-up) but <strong>always check a student&#8217;s ILP<\/strong> for more detail.
