See our <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/download-gradebook-or-mark-history\/\">guide Download Gradebook or Mark History<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"schema\"><a id=\"Section1\"><\/a>Mark Schemas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It is possible to set-up a mark schema if you would like the student to see Pass\/Fail instead of a numerical mark for a specific assessment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note:<\/strong> We do not provide letter grades in Blackboard, letter grades are calculated in RISIS so students can view their marks on the RISIS dashboard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Create a Pass\/Fail schema<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Click on Mark Schemas in the Gradebook setting panel &#8211; It automatically populates non-submitted work with a zero mark. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"overall\">Overall Mark<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We are <strong>not using the Overall Mark<\/strong> option here at Reading because the marks in Blackboard are see as &#8220;raw&#8221; marks in comparison to the RISIS marks that have had any penalties added. Students can see their overall grades via the RISIS student dashboard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you would find it helpful to calculate student marks for the module or for a section of it please keep these calculations hidden from students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"visibility\">Student Visibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The student visibility toggle allows you to hide students in the gradebook who no longer have access to the course. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"343\" height=\"62\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/08\/Student-alerts-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22471\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"gradebook-visibility\">Item Management <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Click &#8220;Manage gradebook items&#8221; to view Item Management screen which shows all assessments in the Gradebook and there Gradebook visibility. From this screen you to hide columns within the gradebook from course instructors and markers and make them visible again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Toggle the columns you wish to be visible on <strong>(k)<\/strong> and those you wish to hide off <strong>(l)<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is possible to hide calculated columns <strong>(m)<\/strong> such as [IC] columns, which may clutter the Gradebook. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1058\" height=\"496\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/05\/image-4.png\" alt=\"Screenshot of Gradebook item management screen\" class=\"wp-image-26247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/05\/image-4.png 1058w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/05\/image-4-768x360.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1058px) 100vw, 1058px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>The number of items hidden is <strong>shown at the top of the Gradebook<\/strong>, click the &#8220;items hidden&#8221; link to jump straight to the Item management screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"533\" height=\"130\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/01\/Gradecolumns-hidden.png\" alt=\"Highlighting number of items hidden in Gradecentre.\" class=\"wp-image-25235\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Hiding columns from instructor view does not change the visibility to students. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The columns will be hidden from all instructors, not just your individual view of the Gradebook.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"categories\">Mark Categories<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The mark categories section shows a list of all the categories already set up on the course.  These are the categories that will appear in the drop down list when you are creating or editing assessments. Any rubrics on the course will be listed here.
