Introduction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you need to give an external examiner access to your Blackboard course, there is a custom role which you can use to grant access to course materials, and to student work submitted to Blackboard and\/or Turnitin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A summary of what the role can and can\u2019t do<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This is a Course Role \u2013 like Instructor, Teaching Assistant, or Marker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can assign the External Examiner role when enrolling a user onto your course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please be sure to assign the new<\/strong> role, ‘External Examiner (Ultra)’.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Permissions associated with the role<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Course Content<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  • Can view all course content, including that which is currently unavailable to students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Not able to create new content or edit existing content<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Gradebook<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Has restricted access to the Blackboard Gradebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • Can view and modify all grades \u2013 any type of gradable item (Blackboard and Turnitin  Assignments, Tests, Blogs and Wikis).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Can leave feedback.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Turnitin Assignments<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
        \n
      • Able to view submitted work, grades and feedback.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Technically able to add feedback and edit grades in the Turnitin assignment Inbox.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Limited ability to edit assignment settings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        N.B. anyone with access to work submitted to Turnitin will also have editing rights \u2013 it is not possible to grant read-only access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Blackboard Assignments <\/h3>\n\n\n\n
          \n
        • Not able to edit assignment settings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Able to view submitted work, grades and feedback.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Can view \u2018Student Activity\u2019 and \u2018Question Analysis\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          Tests<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
            \n
          • Not able to edit Test questions or edit settings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Can view Test questions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Can view students\u2019 grades and feedback.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Can view \u2018Student Activity\u2019 and \u2018Question Analysis\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            Blackboard Journals<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
              \n
            • Not able to edit Journal settings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Able to view entries, grades and feedback.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Able to view \u2018Student Progress\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
