There are several options to achieve this:. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Find and delete &#8216;unused&#8217; files<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/compressing-media-files-to-reduce-filesize\/\">Manage and reduce file sizes<\/a> (guide)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Delete files \n<ul>\n<li>from your Blackboard course homepage (&#8220;Content&#8221;) <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>and the associated file repository (&#8220;Content Collection&#8221;)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Purge the &#8216;Recycle&#8217; folder (Blackboard retain copies of deleted or replaced files in \u201cRecycle Bin\u201d for up to 30 days)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"find\">How to find and delete unused files<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can easily locate and delete unused course files in your course. Select the ellipsis (three dots) menu at the top of the Course Content page and then select&nbsp;<strong>Unused Files.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/12\/unused.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25021\" width=\"794\" height=\"379\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/12\/unused.png 1399w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/12\/unused-768x367.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 794px) 100vw, 794px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two views available on the Unused Files page: unused files (default view), which displays files that have never been opened in your course, or all files, which displays all files in your course. The file name, upload date, and file size are displayed along with an option to download a copy of the local file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simply select the files you want to delete and then select&nbsp;<strong>Delete Files.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"homepage\">Delete files from your course homepage (&#8220;Content&#8221;)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When deleting items from the course homepage (&#8216;Content&#8217;), this action will only remove the display of the content. It does not immediately delete associated files from the course file repository (&#8216;Content Collection&#8217;), meaning they still count towards your course storage quota and can be restored (up to 30 days from deletion, via &#8216;Recycle&#8217; bin).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To delete items from your Blackboard course homepage:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Click &#8220;three dots&#8221; for relevant content item<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From the drop down, click &#8220;Delete&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>Accidently deleted a submission point with marks, and student submissions? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Raise a support ticket within 30 days of deletion.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"collection\">Delete files from your course file repository (&#8220;Content Collection&#8221;)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To completely remove a file from your Blackboard course, and gain more storage space, you should check it is deleted from both the course homepage (&#8216;Content&#8217;) and course file repository (&#8216;Content Collection&#8217;). This will likely include emptying the &#8216;Recycle&#8217; folder in &#8216;Content Collection&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note: Only uploaded files, or files copied to the course, are stored in the &#8216;Content Collection&#8217; and count towards your storage quota. Find your course: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>a<\/strong>) Click &#8216;Course content&#8217;<br><strong>b<\/strong>) Select &#8216;Show all&#8217;<br><strong>c<\/strong>) Press Ctrl+f on your keyboard, this opens a search bar. Find your content:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>a<\/strong>) You can sort the lists into ascending or descending order, to do this: click any column heading (&#8216;FILE TYPE&#8217;, &#8216;NAME&#8217;, last &#8216;EDITED&#8217;, file &#8216;SIZE&#8217; etc) and click a second time to change the order.<br><strong>b<\/strong>) One of the folders will be titled &#8216;Recycle Bin&#8217;. It contains files that have been &#8216;deleted&#8217; from your course homepage (&#8216;Content&#8217;). If you need to restore or empty this folder, check the next section of this guide. <br><strong>c<\/strong>) You can check the available storage at any time.
