It explains how to make arrangements for them to access IT resources, including how to apply for an an IT account and how to arrange their access to Blackboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to arrange an IT account<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>External Examiners can be given a University external user account. They will need this before being enrolled on to any relevant Blackboard modules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Full guidance on how to request a new account available here (login required):<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/uor.topdesk.net\/tas\/public\/ssp\/content\/detail\/knowledgeitem?unid=b6651443-0e65-4339-a39b-64d9cc1619aa\">Request an External User Account<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Accounts can be requested&nbsp;using the SailPoint IIQ website&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/myid.reading.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/myid.reading.ac.uk<\/a>&nbsp;&gt; Create External.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you apply for a new account for an external examiner, you should choose the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Visiting Reason: Visiting Staff-External Examiner<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Location: Non-Campus &#8211; This is important as otherwise the user will be unable to activate their account off-site!<br><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4815\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2018\/08\/ee2.png\" alt=\"The new user request form with the location field - non-campus option highlighted.\" width=\"547\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2018\/08\/ee2.png 547w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2018\/08\/ee2-150x55.png 150w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2018\/08\/ee2-366x135.png 366w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 547px) 100vw, 547px\" \/><br><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The system will set the account up in a way which means the user will not be forced to change their password on first login.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They can then change their password using&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/password.reading.ac.uk\/\">https:\/\/password.reading.ac.uk\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please read the&nbsp;DTS support guides and FAQ\u2019s on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/internal\/its\/EnablingTechnology\/UserAccountManagement\/UAM.aspx?#uam16userguides\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">User Account Management<\/a>&nbsp;for&nbsp;SailPoint IIQ before using the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have any queries about setting up external accounts, please contact the Service Desk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to enrol External Examiners on to Blackboard<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to access marked student work, External Examiners need to be enrolled on the relevant Blackboard modules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This can be done by any UoR staff member who has the role of Instructor or Teaching Assistant on the Blackboard module.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>External Examiners can be assigned the specific course role of \u2018External Examiner (Ultra)\u2019. Please see this guide for details on <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/manage-and-enrol-users\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">how to enrol people on to Blackboard<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/blackboard-the-external-examiner-course-role\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">A guide to the role of External Examiner on Blackboard<\/a>&nbsp;describes what&nbsp;a user with this role can and cannot do in a course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/guide-for-external-examiners\/\">Guide for External Examiners<\/a>&nbsp;provides guidance for the external staff on accessing assessed work in Blackboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">External Examiner organisations in Blackboard<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As well as enrolling External Examiners onto individual modules in Blackboard, it is recommended that Departments make use of an organisation to provide External Examiners with essential information, and as a way of sharing draft exam papers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Exams Officers or Senior Programme Administrators can&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/blackboard\/bbcopy\/Home\/OrganisationRequest\"><u>Request an Organisation<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;&#8211; please specify that it is for use by External Examiners, and it will be set up as a copy of a standard template.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/2023\/08\/01\/external-examiner-organisations\/\">External Examiner Organisations &#8211; recommended structure and content<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This page provides information for&nbsp;university staff who work with External Examiners.
