{"id":24977,"date":"2024-11-29T13:10:23","date_gmt":"2024-11-29T13:10:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/?p=24977"},"modified":"2025-09-30T15:30:30","modified_gmt":"2025-09-30T15:30:30","slug":"reusing-videos-from-your-original-course","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/reusing-videos-from-your-original-course\/","title":{"rendered":"Reusing videos from your Blackboard original course"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Blackboard courses have a file storage limit, to help you keep within that limit there are restrictions on uploading files of a particular files size or file type, see our <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/compressing-media-files-to-reduce-filesize\/\">guide Blackboard File size limits<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If video files have previously been directly uploaded into your Blackboard course, you can move them to Yuja (our dedicated video platform) and link to them in Blackboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Video<\/strong> <strong>files should be stored in YuJa<\/strong>, this offers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>A secure place to keep your videos.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Uses the ample storage quota in YuJa.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Automatically generates captions for your videos.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can be inserted into your Blackboard course either directly into a folder or anywhere where a text editor is used. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>How to <strong>reuse videos from your original course <\/strong>to your Ultra course:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#step1\">Step 1: Download the video from your original course<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#step2\">Step 2: Upload your video to YuJa<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#step3\">Step 3: Insert your video to your Blackboard course<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: revert\">Resources such as Word documents or PDFs should not be uploaded to&nbsp;YuJa &#8211; there is a risk that these files may be auto-deleted if they&#8217;re stored in YuJa. Students should continue to access non-video learning resources from Blackboard.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step1\">Step 1: Download the video from your original course<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In your Blackboard original course go to the Course Management area in the left-hand side menu and open the Files menu.  Click on the module code under Files. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will open the Course Content for your module.  All the files uploaded onto the course will appear here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Scroll to the bottom of the page and click &#8220;Show All&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sort the files by &#8220;file type&#8221; (<strong>(a)<\/strong> on the image) to locate the videos.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the videos you wish to download (<strong>(b)<\/strong> on the image).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Download Package<\/strong> &#8211; this will create a zip file of all the selected files and download it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-3\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"240\" height=\"295\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/11\/image-14.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24994\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When the course content list appears scroll to the bottom of the page and click &#8220;show all&#8221;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"491\" height=\"115\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/11\/image-18.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24998\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"521\" height=\"469\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/11\/image-19.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24999\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have downloaded the videos you are ready to upload them to YuJa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step2\">Step 2: Upload your video to YuJa<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>See YuJa&#8217;s help article for a <a href=\"https:\/\/support.yuja.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/360041319034-Manually-Uploading-Media-Content#previewing-video-files-during-the-upload-process-0-4\">list of supported file types<\/a> which can be uploaded to YuJa (opens in a new window). Most video file types are supported. However, if you do have a video file in a non-supported format, you can use <strong>Handbrake<\/strong> or <strong>VLC Player<\/strong> (both available via&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/appsanywhere.reading.ac.uk\/\">Apps Anywhere<\/a>) to convert it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Log in to YuJa and assign Schema Tags<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/?p=13011\">Log in to YuJa<\/a> with your University of Reading credentials (logging in via Blackboard is recommended).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose <strong>Upload <\/strong>from the top options<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"604\" height=\"100\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/11\/image-5.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24979\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Before transferring your video, you must assign it a &#8216;Schema Tag&#8217;. This ensures that the content is allocated the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/imps\/-\/media\/project\/functions\/information-management-and-policy-services\/documents\/recorded-content-retention-schedule.pdf\"> correct retention period in YuJa.<\/a> Choose <strong>Add Schema Tags<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choosing the correct tag from the drop-down list:\n<ul>\n<li>If your videos has no students present (e.g. a screencast), choose <strong>Personal capture<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your video is a recording of a student assessment (e.g. recording made of an in-class assessed presentation), choose <strong>Assessment<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your video is a recording of a teaching session with students present (e.g. a webinar in Teams), select <strong>Uncategorised<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>When you have chosen the correct tag, click&nbsp;<strong>Save.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2022\/05\/schema-tags.png\" alt=\"Add Schema Tags menu showing the Value dropdown Personal Capture, Assessment, Uncategorised\" width=\"593\" height=\"305\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Browse for your video and upload<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Choose <strong>Browse<\/strong> to choose the video from your device. For example, a video you&#8217;d like students to watch before a lecture, together with the handouts and lecture slides for context. A video added to an Ultra Document appears as an embedded object:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"760\" height=\"701\"
