There are a number of different item types <strong>Item<\/strong>, Text Item, Calculation, Total Calculation.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An <strong>Item<\/strong> allows you to add marks directly to the Gradebook. Set up the column according to your needs including due date, points, category or description.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flex wp-container-6\" style=\"border-style:none;border-width:0px;border-radius:0px\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"426\" height=\"530\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/12\/image-18.png\" alt=\"Screenshot of New Item edit\/setup panel\" class=\"wp-image-25215\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow\">\n<ul style=\"margin-top:0;margin-right:0;margin-bottom:0;margin-left:0;padding-top:0;padding-right:0;padding-bottom:0;padding-left:0;font-size:16px\">\n<li style=\"line-height:4\">Name the column <strong>(a)<\/strong> something meaningful.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"line-height:4\">Add a due date <strong>(b)<\/strong> if required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"line-height:4\">Mark using preference <strong>(c)<\/strong> (points by default).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"line-height:4\">Maximum point, <strong>(d)<\/strong> usually 100.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"line-height:4\">Mark category, <strong>(e)<\/strong> select as desired (Assignment by default).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"line-height:2\">Add description <strong>(f)<\/strong> if desire, could be helpful for other staff members and students to know the purpose of this column. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"icmanual\">Manual Columns and integration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are using manual columns to feedback to students <strong>check with mode of submission<\/strong> you have chosen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may be using a manual column so that you can attached a word document as feedback for a Turnitin submission, in this case you can map the Turnitin column or the manual column to the [IC] calculated column to return the marks to RISIS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have chosen <strong>Bb presentation\/performance &#8211; manual<\/strong> feedback integration will create a Gradebook item with the pre-fix [IC].  You can enter the marks directly into this column and transfer them back to RISIS using Marks Approval and Transfer, however, rubrics can not be attached to manual columns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>MC01<\/td><td><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/mode-of-submission-presentation-uploaded-or-verbal-feedback\">Bb presentation \/ performance &#8211; manual feedback<\/a><\/td><td>Manual column<\/td><td>N<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>WC06<br><\/td><td><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/mode-of-submission-physical-entity-submission\/\">Physical entity submission<\/a><br><\/td><td>Weighted (calculated) Column<br><\/td><td>N<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You will <strong>not be able to use rubrics <\/strong>to mark with a manual column (item), therefore, you may wish to use the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/marking-using-offline-submissions-function\/\">Blackboard Assignment submissions offline <\/a>or <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/turnitin-marking-when-students-have-not-submitted-online\/\">Turnitin grading template<\/a> options to give marks and feedback where no electronic work is submitted by the student. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A weighted column is provided for <strong>physical entity submissions mode of submission<\/strong> so that you can choose the best route for you to feedback to the students.
