{"id":25912,"date":"2025-03-31T20:01:18","date_gmt":"2025-03-31T20:01:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/?p=25912"},"modified":"2025-04-04T11:01:10","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T11:01:10","slug":"copy-content-from-pre-2024-5-courses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/copy-content-from-pre-2024-5-courses\/","title":{"rendered":"Copy content from pre-2024\/5 courses"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>If you would like to retrieve an item from a Blackboard course prior to 2024\/5 the course will be in a different format to the current Blackboard, so some differences in the copying process may exist. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#warning\">Warnings and cautions<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#copy\">Copying from a Blackboard original course<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#tests\">Copying original course Tests and Test Questions<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#rubrics\">Copying original course rubrics <\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"warning\"><a id=\"content\"><\/a>Warnings and Cautions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Structural differences between Blackboard original and Ultra any copying across these platforms needs consideration<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Do <strong>not<\/strong> attempt to copy an <strong>entire Blackboard original module<\/strong> or entire folders in a single \u2018copy content\u2019 action.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tests from original courses may contain question types and settings that are no longer supported (<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/copy-tests-into-an-ultra-course\/\">guide on original Test copy advice<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"copy\">Copying from a Blackboard original course<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Use the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-copy-content\/\">copy function<\/a> in your course, this is the same process as usual:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Step 1<\/strong>: Go to the place in the course where you would like the copied items to appear<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Step 2<\/strong>: In the copy items screen locate the relevant course\/organisation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Step 3<\/strong>: Click on the course to view the content areas (menu items from original course).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Step 4<\/strong>: Select items to copy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on the content area title or the arrow on the far right of the content area you wish to copy files from. Selecting from here will add it to the Items Selected panel, the content area will copy as a folder and all nested folders contained within will flatten out to one level and may take some time or re-organise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tests\">Copying Tests<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two ways to copy tests from pre 2024\/5 courses as a deployed Test or as a Pool. It is not possible to locate non-deployed tests using the copy function.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An alternative to using the copy function is to export a pool which can then be <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/question-banks\/\">imported in the Question Banks<\/a> area on your new course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prepare to copy tests by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Deploy<\/strong> the test on the course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create a <strong>pool from any questions<\/strong> you wish to copy (will copy as a question bank)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/copy-tests-into-an-ultra-course\/\">guide on pre-2024\/5 course Test copy advice<\/a> (some question types will not copy)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In the<strong> Copy Items screen<\/strong>,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>deployed tests can be found via the content folders <strong>(a)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and Pools via the Question Banks folder <strong>(b)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1003\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/03\/image-32.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25981\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/03\/image-32.png 1003w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/03\/image-32-768x459.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1003px) 100vw, 1003px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tests which use Pools<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you copy tests which use pools the pool with copy as Question Banks and can be found in the Question Bank area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If more than one test uses the same pool it would be best to copy the tests together rather than create duplicate question banks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Copying course Rubrics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Use the copy function as usual in the Copy Items screen you will find a separate folder named Rubrics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Click on the folder named Rubrics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select which rubrics from the list you wish to copy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click Start Copy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flex wp-container-3\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"642\" height=\"440\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/03\/image-26.png\" alt=\"Screenshot of copy items screen\" class=\"wp-image-25917\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"715\" height=\"451\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/03\/image-28.png\" alt=\"Screenshot of copy items screen\" class=\"wp-image-25919\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>You can view all of the rubrics in your Ultra course by going to the <strong>Gradebook<\/strong>, clicking on the <strong>Settings<\/strong> (cog wheel icon), then scrolling down to the &#8216;Rubrics&#8217; section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"392\" height=\"559\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/03\/image-29.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25921\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"rubrics\">Qualitative Rubrics<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently in Blackboard Ultra all Rubric are scoring.
