Make the course available to students<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what\">What is Course Rollover?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Course Rollover is the <strong>annual process for scheduling and creating courses for the coming academic<\/strong> <strong>year <\/strong>in Blackboard based on the modules in RISIS<strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>new blank course shell<\/strong> is created each year using the institutional template.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can <strong>select and copy content<\/strong> from a previous course or <strong>uploaded materials <\/strong>to create the course following the template.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Organisations are not part of Rollover. They run continuously.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"when\">When are courses set up?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Course shells are <strong>released on Blackboard in mid-May<\/strong> for the coming academic year. <strong>(2025-26 courses now available in Blackboard.)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A course is created in Blackboard if it is <strong>scheduled to run in RISIS<\/strong> for the coming academic year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supplementary courses are not automatically set up and need to be requested each year (as they do not appear in RISIS).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"action\">What actions do I need to take?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The Module Convenor or lead teacher should <strong>undertake or coordinate the following steps after the release of the course shells<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Where teaching on a module is shared by colleagues or team taught, agree ahead of time who is undertaking which steps or copying \/ creating specific content and communicate this to each other.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Programme Administrators set up Assessments (Assignments &amp; Online Exams) in courses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask for advice or support from CQSD TEL team if you are unsure what to do. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"prepare\">1. Prepare &amp; check<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can you see your courses for the coming year?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Staff are automatically enrolled if the course ran in the previous academic year with an Instructor or Teaching Assistant role.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Module Convenor listed in RISIS is automatically enrolled.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you cannot see a course, ask to be enrolled. Contact the Module Convenor or Programme Administrator to enrol you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Staff enrolments<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/manage-and-enrol-users\/\">Add or remove colleagues<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-course-and-organisation-roles\/\">Apply an appropriate course role<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"merged\">Merged and Supplementary Courses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/merged-and-supplementary-courses\/\">What are Merged and Supplementary Courses and how do they work?<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Merged courses<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>Merged course shells are re-created each year using the same courses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/blackboard\/bbcopy\/Home\/Codes\">Review codes used in existing Merged Courses<\/a>. (Login: University ID and Password.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/blackboard\/bbcopy\/Home\/newmerged\/\">Request a new Merged Course<\/a>. Requests should be made ahead of students using the courses.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"create\">2. Review, re-use &amp; create<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/how-to-use-the-course-template\/\">Use the Course Template<\/a> <\/strong>to locate information and materials and give students a common digital learning experience in Blackboard.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consider what content needs to be <strong>updated, re-organised or re-designed<\/strong> to inform your approach.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To create the content in a new course shell you may need to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Copy content from another course<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>You will need to be enrolled in both courses to copy content between them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Essential guidance: <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/course-rollover-when-to-copy-content-into-the-course-template\/\">How and when to copy content into the course template<\/a>.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Do not copy an entire course<\/strong>, this can lead to additional work for you and Support Centre colleagues.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-copy-content\/\">How to use the copy content tool<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-copy-content\/#types\">Advice on copying specific types of content<\/a>.\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-copy-content\/#thirdparty\">Copying Online Reading List links<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Upload, replace &amp; delete content<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/add-content-to-a-blackboard-learn-ultra-course\/\">Add content<\/a> (including how to add Folders and create <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-create-content-document\/\">Documents<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-add-content-upload\/\">How to Upload Files<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-add-content-upload\/#replace\">How to replace files that have been copied<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the &#8216;More options&#8217; button (three dots) to the right of a content item to Edit or Delete.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-batch-edit-visibility-to-students\/\">Use Batch Edit<\/a> to delete multiple items in one go.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/delete-or-restore-course-content\/\">Fully delete any unused files<\/a> after you&#8217;ve finished.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Edit setting, dates and availability<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Click the &#8216;More options&#8217; button (three dots) to the right of a content item to edit it and update any settings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-release-conditions\/\">Edit release conditions<\/a> to make content visible to students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-batch-edit-visibility-to-students\/\">Use Batch Edit<\/a> to bulk edit visibility of content to students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Make your content accessible<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/making-your-ultra-content-accessible\/\">Create accessible content<\/a> &#8211; some simple ways to check the accessibility of your materials and make your content more accessible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"yuja\">3. Enable the YuJa video channel and publish to it<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Click the &#8216;YuJa (Video channel)&#8217; link<\/strong> in the course. This creates a video channel for the course (the first time it is clicked) and lets you <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/yuja-publishing-to-the-channel-for-a-blackboard-course\/\">publish your videos to the course channel<\/a>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This needs to be done in each course to create a corresponding YuJa video channel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"readinglist\">4. Update the Online Reading List<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/libguides.reading.ac.uk\/teaching-staff\/materials-teaching-support\">Check and update the course&#8217;s Online Reading List<\/a> after the annual &#8216;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/libguides.reading.ac.uk\/reading-lists\/staff\/rollover\">Library Reading List Rollover<\/a>&#8216; takes place at the end of June<\/strong> for the coming academic year. (UK Campus courses only.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Clear copyrighted digital &amp; scanned texts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Use the <a href=\"https:\/\/libguides.reading.ac.uk\/teaching-staff\/scanning-service\">Library&#8217;s Scanning Service<\/a> to digitise any print texts and articles to meet copyright and accessibility legal requirements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contact your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/library\/contacts-support\/staff-lists\/academic-liaison-librarians\">Academic Library Liaison<\/a> for further assistance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"available\">5. Make the course available to students<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>When it&#8217;s ready<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-make-a-course-or-organisation-available\/\">,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-make-a-course-or-organisation-available\/\">make your course available to students<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make courses available before teaching on the module begins.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Automatic student enrolments from RISIS start from the first week of August<\/strong>.
