{"id":26448,"date":"2025-05-26T18:07:35","date_gmt":"2025-05-26T18:07:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/?p=26448"},"modified":"2025-12-15T13:01:47","modified_gmt":"2025-12-15T13:01:47","slug":"course-rollover-when-to-copy-content-into-the-course-template","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/course-rollover-when-to-copy-content-into-the-course-template\/","title":{"rendered":"Course Rollover: When to copy content into the course template"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When &amp; how to copy content into the course template<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/telblog\/2025\/05\/02\/understanding-revised-blackboard-rollover-25-6\/\">The Blackboard Course Rollover process has been revised for 2025-26 courses<\/a>.<strong> <\/strong>A <strong>new blank course shell<\/strong> is created using the institutional template to <strong>select and copy, or re-create<\/strong> the content you need&nbsp;into it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Companion guides:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/blackboard-course-rollover\/\">Blackboard Course Rollover instructions<\/a> (Step by step).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-copy-content\/\">How to use the Copy Content tool<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-copy-content\/#types\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Advice for copying specific types of content<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p><strong>Do not copy an entire course<\/strong>, this can lead to additional work for you and Support Centre colleagues to remove or correct content.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Copy advice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Click on a Learning Module or Folder<\/strong> to open it and find the purple plus sign needed <strong>to copy content inside it<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In some cases it may be easier to <strong>re-upload or re-create<\/strong> content that is being revised or updated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Update any dates, settings or release conditions<\/strong> on copied content.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copied content is set to <strong>&#8216;Unavailable to students&#8217; by default<\/strong>. Use <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-batch-edit-visibility-to-students\/\">Batch Edit<\/a> to <strong>bulk edit visibility<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unintentially copied content content can be safely <strong>deleted<\/strong>. Use <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/ultra-batch-edit-visibility-to-students\/\">Batch Edit<\/a> to bulk delete.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Screencast <a href=\"https:\/\/reading.yuja.com\/V\/Video?v=917329&amp;node=4947381&amp;a=198578521\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Revised Rollover &#8211; How to approach copying &amp; re-creating content<\/a> (11 mins).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do&#8217;s &amp; Don&#8217;ts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Do not<\/strong> <strong>copy<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Centrally authored content<\/strong> that is automatically part of the template (e.g. Important Assignment Information).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Assignment submission points<\/strong> (Turnitin, Blackboard &amp; Gradescope). These are setup new each time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The entire &#8216;<strong>Module Information&#8217;, &#8216;Assessment&#8217;, &#8216;Module Evaluation<\/strong>&#8216; Learning Modules. Instead copy specific items \/ folders inside them, as appropriate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>You can copy<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>Blackboard <strong>Tests<\/strong>.
