The Blackboard AI Design Assistant lets you quickly generate these activities and their accompanying instructions (example below), based your course&#8217;s title and description. The output can be tailored by selecting specific course content or adding a description prompt. You can select course content to generate relevant outputs, and use the description field to add additional prompting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We recommend using this tool for inspiration, when looking for ideas to create authentic and engaging assessments or learning activities. If you decide to use the output, you will need to edit the generated text to mitigate the following: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Look out for activity bloat, whereby the suggested task\/s may be time-consuming to achieve or require careful scaffolding (for example, the generated journal may include the instruction to &#8216;create a podcast&#8217; or &#8216;design an infographic,&#8217; which presents technical production skills that may be unfamiliar to students).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The outputs may or may not suggest timings that align to your planned task (for example, when or how often to post in a forum or make a journal entry).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Outputs do not include advice about how to approach writing reflectively or discursively, for example length, tone, etiquette or number of entries\/replies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"How-do-I-create-AI-Journals-and-Discussions?\">How do I create AI Journals and Discussions?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To add a Journal or Discussion go to the + Create &gt; Participation and Engagement and select the Learning activity you wish to add.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"259\" height=\"304\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/06\/image-26.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26987\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"313\" height=\"235\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/06\/image-30.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26991\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Set up the Activity as you would normally, with a title and student engagement settings.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Auto-generate Discussion\u00a0or Auto-generate Journal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"759\" height=\"264\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/07\/03.-Set-up.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27196\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Select the Auto-generate button for your journal or discussion, the next steps are the same for either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An initial generation will take place based on the course title.
