You can download the Gradebook in .CSV or .XLS format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#download\">Download Gradebook<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#upload\">Upload Gradebook<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#history\">Download Mark History<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"download\">Download Gradebook<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Downloading the Gradebook allows for a number of different tasks outside of Blackboard, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Uploading marks directly into RISIS.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transferring marks to external marks spreadsheets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applying formulas in order to perform statistical analysis of mark data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1: Open Gradebook tabs Markable Items, Marks or Students <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Each of these tabs show the Gradebook icon <strong>(a)<\/strong> in the top right-hand corner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"153\" height=\"55\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/07\/image-35.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27372\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/07\/image-35.png 153w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/07\/image-35-150x55.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 153px) 100vw, 153px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on the Download icon to open the Download Options panel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2: Select your download options<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When the Download Options panel opens complete each section. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mark records<\/strong> &#8211; options are Full Gradebook or Mark History, select Full Gradebook <strong>(b)<\/strong>, you can specify which columns in the next section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Record Details<\/strong> &#8211; specify which items (columns\/assessments) in the Gradebook that you wish to include in the downloaded excel file. The options are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Select All Items<strong> (c) <\/strong>&#8211; will download all columns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select individual assessments &#8211; all the columns in the Gradebook are listed &#8211; select one or more <strong>(d).<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Include feedback fro selected item &#8211; on\/off<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>File Type<\/strong> &#8211; Select from the options Tab-separated File (.xls) or Comma Separated Values (.csv)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Save Location<\/strong> &#8211; Select from the options My Device or Content Collection (we recommend downloading to your device)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"698\" height=\"639\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/07\/image-34.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27371\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3: Click Download<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once all the options have been selected click download. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The file will download immediately to your download folder (unless you have selected content collection). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1693\" height=\"673\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/07\/image-36.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/07\/image-36.png 1693w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/07\/image-36-768x305.png 768w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/07\/image-36-1536x611.png 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1693px) 100vw, 1693px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"upload\">Upload Gradebook<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are downloading the Gradebook to add marks, for example, than you will need to upload it once more when you are ready. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To synchronize external data to gradebook data, unique identifiers are necessary for each student and for each column in the gradebook. The unique identifier used for each student is the student&#8217;s username. The unique identifier for each column is a column ID number. <strong>Column ID numbers are generated by the system and shouldn&#8217;t be changed or deleted.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1: Open the Markable items, Marks or Students tab<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In the top right-hand corner of the Gradebook select the Upload icon to open the Upload Gradebook panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"153\" height=\"55\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/07\/image-40.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27379\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/07\/image-40.png 153w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/07\/image-40-150x55.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 153px) 100vw, 153px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2: In the Upload Gradebook panel select your file to be uploaded.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Use the Drag &amp; drop, Upload Local File or Content Collection options to select your file. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"384\" height=\"486\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/07\/image-38.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27377\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3: Confirm the columns you wish to upload<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Upload Gradebook panel will remain open, the column names of all the<strong> columns you have changed<\/strong>, in excel, will appear in a list. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>If you do not want to upload any of these changed columns, <strong>de-select<\/strong> them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any <strong>column you have added<\/strong> in excel while the file was download will appear on this list. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If any errors to the upload have been found you will be able to view error details to find what the problem is so you can solve it and try again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click <strong>upload<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"381\" height=\"395\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/07\/image-39.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27378\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>The Gradebook will be updated to include the changes you have made in excel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any grade additions or changes you made to non-posted grades in the file appear as overrides in your gradebook. In the student list view, you can open a student&#8217;s submission and select&nbsp;Undo Override&nbsp;if needed. <strong>If you change a&nbsp;<em>posted&nbsp;<\/em>grade in the file, you&#8217;ll need to post the grade again.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"history\">Mark History<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The alternative to Full Gradebook is to download the<strong> Mark History<\/strong>, which will give a list of changes made to the marks, submission made, mark added etc. for each assessment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Follow the instructions for downloading the Gradebook choosing all or a selection of columns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>You can choose to include any items which have been deleted from the Gradebook. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can select how far back in terms of time you want the mark history to cover using the Last Modified Date option. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"370\" height=\"518\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/07\/image-42.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27383\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>The downloaded grade history file includes this information:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Date&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type of assessment and grade category&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Last edition user\u2019s details&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student username&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submission receipt: The submission receipt number&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submission attempt: The number of the submitted attempt&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type: If it was a regular or an override grade&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Obtained value&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Event: Additional details such as if was a group attempt, if it\u2019s not posted or if it needs grading&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Gradebook can be downloaded in a spreadsheet format, allowing you work with marks offline.
