{"id":5073,"date":"2019-02-28T14:57:14","date_gmt":"2019-02-28T14:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support-test-2\/?p=5073"},"modified":"2025-02-13T12:44:44","modified_gmt":"2025-02-13T12:44:44","slug":"blackboard-learn-guest-access-to-courses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/blackboard-learn-guest-access-to-courses\/","title":{"rendered":"Blackboard Learn: Guest access to Courses"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The role of the &#8216;Guest&#8217; role is not supported in Blackboard Ultra courses<\/strong> and cannot be used to provide access to a course for staff or students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Student &#8216;Guest attendance&#8217; at a module<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/cqsd\/-\/media\/project\/functions\/cqsd\/documents\/qap\/non-contributory-modules-and-guest-attendance.pdf?la=en&amp;hash=303E1719C9D932E3B7779CADB45694A8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Policy statement on non-contributory modules and guest attendance<\/a> (Guide to Policies and Procedures for Teaching and Learning, Section 7: Personal Development) outlines how students should be enrolled on a module in RISIS and how this provides access to the corresponding course in Blackboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please refer to the policy for full details but a Module Convernor may permit a student to attend the lectures as a guest for a module they are not taking and do not receive credit for. In this circumstance, <strong>the student should be added to the module in RISIS by enrolling them on the G occurence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Students enrolled in the Blackboard course with the G occurence appear with the role &#8216;Student&#8217;<\/strong> and can access all elements of a course which is visible to students taking the course.
