This system hierarchy provides you access to your schools courses via the Administrator Panel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#new\">New staff access<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#panel\">Open the Admin Panel<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#find\">Find courses<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#open\">Open course<\/a> (you will have restricted access unless enrolled on the course)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#enrol\">Enrol yourself or others on a course, and quick enroll<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#users\">Look up users<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"new\">New staff and changes of role<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>SPAs \/ Programmes Managers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>For new members of staff joining your team, please log a ticket to request access to the appropriate departments for your new colleague.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When colleagues change role within the Support Centre, please log a ticket so we can update their access in Blackboard.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To allow staff access to the <strong>Grades Approval and Transfer<\/strong> function on your courses they will also require the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/2018\/12\/19\/ema-integration-marks-approval-and-transfer-approving-marks-for-transfer-to-risis\/\">Grades Approval role<\/a>, this can also be requested by raising a ticket on the DTS helpdesk. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"panel\">Open the Administrator Panel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have been added to your school hierarchy in Blackboard you will see the Admin option on the Blackboard Menu. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flex wp-container-3\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"158\" height=\"395\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/06\/image-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26676\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"525\" height=\"336\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/06\/image-5.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26683\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"find\">Finding a course<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once in the Administrator Panel click on <strong>Courses<\/strong>. Use the search function to locate your course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Search by Course ID or Course Name<strong> (a)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select Contains \/ Equal to \/ Starts with<strong> (b)<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter the search term &#8211; Truncation is applied automatically<br>e.g. \u2018cognit\u2019 will return hits for courses&nbsp;containing \u2018cognition\u2019 and \u2018cognitive\u2019; \u2018PY2TA\u2019 will return results also for PY2TA1, PY2TA2 etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To narrow the search results, you may find it helpful to search for courses created After a certain date <strong>(d)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1101\" height=\"647\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/06\/image-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26682\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/06\/image-4.png 1101w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/06\/image-4-768x451.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1101px) 100vw, 1101px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>Course list:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Search results are sorted by Course ID. You can click on any of the <strong>column headings<\/strong> to reorder the results <strong>(e)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Red x icon indicates the course is <strong>Unavailable <\/strong>to students <strong>(f)<\/strong>. This refers to the course being open or closed to students and is controlled by the MC and team. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Red arrow icon Indicates that this is a <strong>Child course<\/strong> <strong>(g)<\/strong>. The Parent course is indicated immediately above.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Red circle with a line through it icon indicates a course which has been <strong>disabled (h)<\/strong> \u2013 normally this indicates either a very old course, or that the course was created in error<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"open\">Open a course<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Simply click on the highlighted Course ID to access the course itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure you open the <strong>parent course<\/strong>. \n<ul>\n<li> If you open a child course in error a warning banner will appear  <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"688\" height=\"56\" class=\"wp-image-26679\" style=\"width: 400px\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2020\/07\/2025-06-03_16-26-23.png\" alt=\"Warning: unavailable child course. Students will not see changes made to this course. Please work on the parent course.\"><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The banner will say &#8220;Unavailable child course: Students will not see changes made to this course. Please work in parent course&#8221;. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once the course has opened <strong>you will need to enrol yourself <\/strong>as a Teaching Assistant to access the Gradebook or make most changes. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"enrol\">Enrol yourself and others on the course<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use the contextual menu, then <strong>Enrolments<\/strong> to view all staff and students enrolled on the course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"527\" height=\"249\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2024\/03\/SysAdmin-View-Course-Enrolments.jpg\" alt=\"Screenshot of Courses on the System Admin screen, highlighting the contextual menu and 'Enrolments' option.\" class=\"wp-image-20183\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>The Enrolments screen for the course will list all users enrolled on the course.
