{"id":76,"date":"2018-09-24T13:10:33","date_gmt":"2018-09-24T13:10:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/academictutors\/?page_id=76"},"modified":"2024-07-15T11:39:55","modified_gmt":"2024-07-15T10:39:55","slug":"your-role","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/academictutors\/your-role\/","title":{"rendered":"Your Role"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>As an Academic Tutor, you are expected to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Invite students to meet at least once in semester 1 (twice for Part 1), and twice in semester 2, and arrange the meetings.<\/li>\n<li>Help students reflect on their academic progress and personal and professional development &#8211; discuss work, feedback &amp; marks (using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/essentials\/Study\/Student-Progress-Dashboard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Student Progress Dashboard<\/a> (SPD), and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.screencast.com\/t\/LdWWoQ5Qaa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">submodular mark screens on RISIS<\/a>), attendance, careers etc.<\/li>\n<li>Actively encourage engagement of all your tutees.<\/li>\n<li>Get to know them as individuals to enable you to write references.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>You should work in partnership with your students<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students are active partners in their learning and development at the University of Reading. Students work in partnership with their tutor to support their academic, personal and professional development. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/essentials\/The-Important-Stuff\/Charter-and-contract\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Student Charter<\/a>\u00a0provides a helpful summary of the expectations staff have of students at Reading. The list below captures those most relevant to academic tutoring. The University expects students to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work hard at their studies and to be active partners in shaping their experience of Higher Education.<\/li>\n<li>Seek out opportunities to enhance their understanding and to develop practical and intellectual skill.<\/li>\n<li>Take advantage of the wealth of activities (social and developmental) provided by the University and Reading University Students&#8217; Union (RUSU).<\/li>\n<li>Be pro-active in managing their learning and in seeking help when needed. Keep appointments and to communicate with staff in a timely and courteous manner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What do students expect of their Academic Tutor?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a
