SUMMARY:Dr Deborah Lee and Dr Martha Nicholson - Advanced Trauma (Online)
DESCRIPTION:This six-day course comprising a four-day block of complex trauma plus two additional CPD days of your choice\, will cover complex (type II) trauma from both childhood and adulthood experiences. It will review the differential impact of multiple\, repeated and prolonged trauma on neuropsychological development\, attachment and cognition\, including difficulties associated with Complex PTSD (C-PTSD). \nThe current evidence base for treating C-PTSD will be reviewed and gaps identified. A phase-based model for working with C-PTSD will be presented to develop learners’ understanding of where to start and where to focus treatment. Different clinical skills which can be used when working with complex trauma\, transferrable to different populations\, will be discussed\, demonstrated and practiced during the workshop. \nLearning objectives: \n\nTo explore the psychological impact of prolonged and repeated trauma\, including the development of C-PTSD.\nExplore the evidence base for treating C-PTSD and discuss current treatment guidelines\nTo introduce a phase-based treatment model to enhance current evidence-based treatment\nTo introduce therapeutic techniques and develop clinical skills in working with PTSD symptoms and additional difficulties commonly seen in C-PTSD\n\nDr Deborah Lee is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Head of the Berkshire Traumatic Stress Service. She has specialized in trauma for over 20 years and has presented her clinical interests and research to an international forum. Her particular areas of interest include shame-based trauma\, interpersonal violence\, PTSD following CSA and compassion-focused therapy. Dr Lee has published widely. \nDr Martha Nicholson is a Principal Clinical Psychologist and Deputy Head of the Berkshire Traumatic Stress Service (BTSS). She has specialised in trauma for many years and has particular interest/expertise in working with both PTSD and C-PTSD following interpersonal violence\, rape and sexual assault and birth trauma. Dr Nicholson has lead on developing specialist treatment pathways within BTSS including the Birth Trauma Pathway and Enhanced Trauma Pathway (Specialist PTSD pathway bridging primary and secondary care). \nBook Here\nDue to the current situation we are unable to physically host workshops at the University of Reading. With the ever-changing guidance around restrictions\, we anticipate this to be a short-to-medium term arrangement – most likely until September 2021. This is under constant review and we will resume our usual programme as soon as possible\, whilst continuing to run the online events as an alternative for those who cannot attend in person. \nEvents will be delivered using Microsoft Teams\, for which delegates will be sent a link for joining. No previous experience of this tool or specific software is required (although we do recommend that you access the event using a connection with good bandwidth). \nTaught by leading experts\, our workshops provide training opportunities in evidence-based treatments. All of our courses are accredited and are BABCP compliant providing 5 CPD hours\, with an approximate 50/50 split between theory and skills. The cost of the workshop includes an electronic CPD certificate. All workshops\, unless otherwise stated\, are intended for a cross/mixed ability audience. \nWe also offer a range of training options in all psychological treatments\, all of which are recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
