SUMMARY:Dr Mark Bruce and Dr Hayley Marwood - Working with Military Veterans (Online)
DESCRIPTION:This workshop aims to equip delegates with the theoretical knowledge and clinical skills required to work with traumatised Military Veterans. \nThere will be a consideration of Armed Forces culture\, operational deployments\, military training\, and transition\, and how these impact upon clinical presentations. \nThe workshop reflects on the complexity of clinical presentations and supports attendees in developing their assessment and formulation skills when working with Veterans\, as well as how to adapt evidence-based treatment for complex PTSD presentations. \nTeaching will focus on skills development using a combination of didactic teaching\, group discussions\, small group discussions\, video clips and experiential learning. \nDr. Mark Bruce and Dr. Hayley Marwood\nMark is a Specialist Counselling Psychologist\, and Hayley a Specialist Clinical Psychologist\, and both are Clinical Leads at the Veterans Mental Health Complex Treatment Service (CTS). Both have worked in the Veterans Service for several years and have been involved in the service development since its inception. Their principal interests are the delivery of evidence-based treatment for traumatised military Veterans and latterly\, working and researching anger. \nBook Here\nDue to the current situation we are unable to physically host workshops at the University of Reading. With the ever-changing guidance around restrictions\, we anticipate this to be a short-to-medium term arrangement – most likely until September 2021. This is under constant review and we will resume our usual programme as soon as possible\, whilst continuing to run the online events as an alternative for those who cannot attend in person. \nEvents will be delivered using Microsoft Teams\, for which delegates will be sent a link for joining. No previous experience of this tool or specific software is required (although we do recommend that you access the event using a connection with good bandwidth). \nTaught by leading experts\, our workshops provide training opportunities in evidence-based treatments. All of our courses are accredited and are BABCP compliant providing 5 CPD hours\, with an approximate 50/50 split between theory and skills. The cost of the workshop includes an electronic CPD certificate. All workshops\, unless otherwise stated\, are intended for a cross/mixed ability audience. \nWe also offer a range of training options in all psychological treatments\, all of which are recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
