SUMMARY:Dr Sarah Miles and Dr Dorothy King - Working with Children and Young People with PTSD (Online)
DESCRIPTION:This workshop aims to equip delegates with theoretical knowledge and an understanding of clinical skills when working with children and young people presenting with PTSD. \nThis training will cover how PTSD presents in children and young people\, trauma-focused assessment in children and young people (including pre-school children)\, the cognitive model of PTSD in children and young people\, developing individualised formulation\, and the key treatment components of cognitive therapy for PTSD in children and young people. The workshop will also consider adaptations for children exposed to multiple and repeated trauma and those with Complex PTSD. \nTeaching will focus on skills development using a combination of didactic teaching\, group discussions\, small group discussions\, role-play\, video presentations\, and experiential learning. \nDr Sarah Miles is a Clinical Psychologist working at the National & Specialist CAMHS Trauma\, Anxiety and Depression Clinic at the Maudsley Hospital in South London. Part of her role within the clinic includes delivering teaching on PTSD\, depression and anxiety for local services and King’s College London University courses. Sarah also works at King’s College London’s Institute of Psychiatry\, Psychology and Neuroscience where she is researching the development of online PTSD treatment for adolescents. She has previously worked with other specialist child and adolescent outpatient trauma services including the Grenfell Health and Wellbeing Service. \nDr Dorothy King is a Clinical Psychologist working at the Berkshire Traumatic Stress Service. Dorothy also works at King’s College London in the Institute of Psychiatry\, Psychology and Neuroscience researching the development of an online PTSD treatment for adolescents. She has previously worked in a specialist child and adolescent mental health service for people from refugee and asylum-seeking backgrounds. \nBook Here\nDue to the current situation we are unable to physically host workshops at the University of Reading. With the ever-changing guidance around restrictions\, we anticipate this to be a short-to-medium term arrangement – most likely until September 2021. This is under constant review and we will resume our usual programme as soon as possible\, whilst continuing to run the online events as an alternative for those who cannot attend in person. \nEvents will be delivered using Microsoft Teams\, for which delegates will be sent a link for joining. No previous experience of this tool or specific software is required (although we do recommend that you access the event using a connection with good bandwidth). \nTaught by leading experts\, our workshops provide training opportunities in evidence-based treatments. All of our courses are accredited and are BABCP compliant providing 5 CPD hours\, with an approximate 50/50 split between theory and skills. The cost of the workshop includes an electronic CPD certificate. All workshops\, unless otherwise stated\, are intended for a cross/mixed ability audience. \nWe also offer a range of training options in all psychological treatments\, all of which are recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
