We have been overwhelmed by the contributions to our Centenary Memories Project<\/a>. Thank you to everyone for sharing your memories and helping us mark a century of creating change together.<\/span><\/p>\n

The stories shared with us will now be curated into a programme of immersive activities open to everyone, running throughout 2026. These include an immersive theatre experience, a trail of curated window pictures across our campuses, a University of Reading Alumni Varsity, a RAG parade, as well as a programme of heritage tours and new heritage leaflets designed by The Friends of the University<\/a>.<\/p>\n

All of the memories shared will also be collected and preserved in the University of Reading\u2019s Special Collections<\/a>. Ho-Kit Lam, Community Engagement Officer at the University of Reading, said:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have received so many wonderful memories from alumni, and we really appreciate your time and effort to provide us with excellent written submissions and pictures.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“The team can\u2019t wait to share more updates about how your memories will be a part of our centenary activities in 2026!”<\/p>\n

We have seen stories on an abundance of themes, from art to traditions, campus life to student life, accommodation, international community and people to name but a few, and we have picked out some memories to share with you.<\/p>\n

\u201cReading has become more than just where we studied \u2013 it\u2019s our family\u2019s home.<\/p>\n

“I treasure the local community and still enjoy the campus with my family, from peaceful walks by the lake and Harris Garden to relaxing at Park House, and joining in on the many community events the University hosts.\u201d<\/p>\n

“My fondest memory at uni would be meeting my partner. We met on move-in day at St George’s in 2016 as we lived three rooms down from each other. Our flatmates from halls are also some of our closest friends to this day.<\/p>\n

“Uni was the perfect place to meet your special someone, and I’m so glad that I was able to experience this. Me and my partner got engaged last year, and ten years on from meeting at uni we will be getting married, with those same friends in attendance!<\/p>\n

Student Life<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\u201cMy fondest memories are Tuesday nights in Ents building struggling to make lectures after one of the excellent UK bands would gig.<\/p>\n

“Reading was renowned for entertainment \u2013 my 21st<\/sup> birthday drink was bought by Jonny Lydon from the Sex Pistols.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cSt Pats Hall of residence first year and Child\u2019s Hall final year, views of the lake, falling in the lake after my brakes failed on my bike hurtling down the hill towards main campus, and friends for life all with fond memories.”<\/p>\n

International Community<\/strong><\/h4>\n

“We came from different corners of the world \u2014 India, Malaysia, Kenya and the United Kingdom…Reading wasn\u2019t just where we studied, it became our home, our refuge, our launchpad.<\/p>\n

“In the face of challenges, from academic stress to personal struggles, we were always there for each other. No one was ever left behind.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
