In other words, it helps to develop student <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/curriculum-framework\/assessment-literacy\/\">assessment literacy.<\/a><\/strong>Assessment for learning is<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/internal\/engaging-everyone\/ee-home.aspx\">i<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/internal\/engaging-everyone\/ee-home.aspx\"><strong>nclusive<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>and makes use of\u00a0 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/curriculum-framework\/authentic-assessment\/\">authentic assessment methods<\/a> <\/strong>and offers opportunity for students to develop their knowledge and skills to be successful at university and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Effective <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/internal\/engageinfeedback\/efb-engage-in-feedback-home.aspx\">feedback\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>to students is a vital component of assessment for learning, as students need to understand how modify their approach to reach a higher level of performance.<\/p>\n<p>Assessment <em>of<\/em> Learning, widely referred to as summative assessment, meets the University's requirement that assessment regimes are fit for purpose and effective in measuring student attainment of the intended module and programme level learning outcomes.<\/p>\n<h1>What can I do?<\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When reviewing assessment practices, ask the following questions<\/p>\n<p>What activities support students' <strong>assessment literacy<\/strong>, where they are guided on how to make judgements on their own performance and understand how to improve on it?<\/p>\n<p>Is there a <strong>balance between formative and summative<\/strong> assessment and is this planned at a programme level?<\/p>\n<p>Does feedback <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/internal\/engageinfeedback\/efb-feed-forward.aspx\"><strong>feed-forward<\/strong><\/a>?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wrapper\">\n<div id=\"inside-wrapper\" class=\"inside-wrapper\">\n<div id=\"main-content\" class=\"content-center\">\n<div class=\"cl-side_2r c-green\">\n<div class=\"pullout-box\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Engage in Assessment Assessment for Learning Programme-level Assessment Diversifying Assessment Formative Assessment Assessment Literacy Resources UoR,\u00a0 Assessment and Feedback policy and guidance The Higher Education Academy (HEA).
