I would like to get involved in hosting Reading Partnership Teachers (RPTs) in my school but haven\u2019t done so before. What do I do next?<\/b><\/h3>\n

We would be delighted to have you on board! We would talk placements through with you to make sure that your school has the capacity to support students, and you would need to sign our Partnership Agreement. I am interested in hosting RPTs in my school but I’m concerned about the workload for my staff. What advice do you have?<\/b><\/p>\n

We offer extensive support to mentors in all of our programmes. This includes initial and ongoing training, regular meetings and visits from a university supervising tutor to quality-assure the placements and provide support and reassurance that everything is on track.<\/p>\n

\n

How can I be confident that any RPT placed in my school will have been fully vetted?<\/b><\/h3>\n

As part of recruitment and enrolment, we have robust processes for ensuring that all students meet the entry requirements. This includes not only checking conditions such as GCSE or equivalent qualifications, and first degrees for those on postgraduate courses, but undertaking the DBS and childcare disqualification checks. Students are provided with documentary evidence to confirm that these checks have been carried out. For students on employment-based courses, the employing school or setting has the responsibility for making sure the DBS check is completed.<\/p>\n

How can we support an RPT with dyslexia whilst they are on placement at our school\/setting?<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

I have concerns about an RPT based in my school, who should I contact?<\/b><\/h3>\n

Your RPT will have a supervising tutor who is your first port of call to discuss their placement. In addition, there is a Handbook for every placement containing contact details for the Programme Director, so please don\u2019t hesitate to get in touch with any questions or concerns.<\/p>\n

Admissions (for Lead Partners)<\/h2>\n

I need some advice on the admissions process. Who should I contact?<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

Who checks the qualification certificates of potential RPTs?<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

All students are asked to scan and send us a copy of their qualification certificates as a condition of their offer<\/span>. We check that certificates match the qualifications <\/span>entered on the<\/span>\u00a0application and attach copies to the application record\u00a0<\/span>so that they are<\/span>\u00a0available<\/span>\u00a0if required<\/span>\u00a0for external audit\/inspection purposes<\/span>. We <\/span>also<\/span>\u00a0ask applicants to\u00a0<\/span>bring<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>their<\/span>\u00a0certificates\u00a0<\/span>when they come to<\/span>\u00a0enro<\/span>l at the university<\/span>\u00a0so that we can see the originals.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

I have interviewed a prospective RPT<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>and would like to offer a place. What do I do next?<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

Please send a copy of the completed interview form to\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>teachertraining@reading.ac.uk.<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong> We will then<\/span>\u00a0check the application and<\/span> send a formal offer email to the potential RPT<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>with details of all academic and non-academic conditions attached to the offer, along with details of fees payable<\/span>. We will also send the decision to the DfE which will update the status on the prospective RPT’s DfE account.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

I have sent confirmation that I would like to offer a place to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>teachertraining@reading.ac.uk<\/span><\/span><\/a>. How long will it take for the formal offer email to be sent to the applicant?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

We aim to send the offer emails within 5 days of receiving the form<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

An applicant has contacted me to say\u00a0<\/span>they<\/span>\u2019ve<\/span>\u00a0received their offer but<\/span> can\u2019t accept their place. What should I tell them?<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

Applicants\u00a0<\/span>aren\u2019t<\/span>\u00a0able to accept their places until they have had decisions from all of their application choices.\u00a0 They will need to either wait for decisions from all providers they applied to or, if they\u00a0<\/span>don\u2019t<\/span> want to wait, they can withdraw from the choices they haven\u2019t heard back from through their DfE apply account.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

I have an RPT<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>who wishes to defer their offer to next year. What should they do?<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

We do not defer offers for teacher training and ask potential RPTs to submit a fresh application at the start of the next cycle. For university-based PGCE courses, we do not usually ask potential RPTs to attend another interview and will issue an offer for the new entry point on receipt of the new application.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

I have a potential <\/span><\/span>RPT <\/span><\/span><\/span>who has accepted a place with another provider but now wishes to train with our school. How can we make an offer?<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

The applicant will need to withdraw from the course choice that they have previously accepted. They can do this through their DfE account. The applicant should then be able to add another choice to their DfE application (but beware of providing this advice unless you are certain you are going to make an offer!).<\/p>\n

\n

A potential RPT has advised me that they <\/span>won\u2019t<\/span> receive their degree result until after the programme starts. Is this a problem?<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

There may be a small amount of flexibility if the results are received within 1 or 2 weeks of the start <\/span>date<\/span> but the student-teacher won\u2019t be able to fully enrol until all conditions are met. If it is likely to be later than <\/span>this<\/span>\u00a0we would advise the applicant to apply for the next year instead<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

An<\/span> offer holder\u00a0<\/span>has been offered a place for the “QTS only” route but now wishes to follow the “with PGCE” route (or vice versa). What do I need to do?<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

Please complete the form available on our\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>course change request page<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong>. We will then update the record and issue an amended offer email with the new details.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

International<\/h2>\n

I have an applicant with overseas qualifications. How can I check if these meet the degree\/GCSE requirements?<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

Please ask the applicant to provide a certificate or transcript showing details of their awards. Then forward this to\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span>teachertraining@reading.ac.uk<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 We have a range of resources we can use to check\u00a0<\/span>qualifications<\/span>.<\/span> If we are unable to determine\u00a0<\/span>eligibility<\/span> we may ask the applicant to obtain a UK ENIC compa<\/span>rability statement<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

I have a candidate who is not a UK national. How can I check whether they will pay home or international fees?<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

UK nationality or UK residency alone does not necessarily guarantee home fee status eligibility and fee status assessment can often be complex. All offer emails to applicants initially assessed as overseas include details of how they can request a re-assessment if they think they should be eligible for home fees. If you need advice on possible fee status before making an <\/span>offer<\/span>\u00a0please contact\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/span>teachertraining@reading.ac.uk<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

I have an EU applicant. Are they still eligible for Home fees?<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

Following the UK\u2019s exit from the EU, the government have confirmed that EU nationals will now be <\/span>have<\/span> to pay overseas fees. However, EU nationals that have been granted pre-settled or settled status under the EU settlement scheme may still be eligible for home fee status. Please feel free to direct any queries to <\/span><\/span>teachertraining@reading.ac.uk<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I have an RPT who will need a visa to enter the UK. Who will act as a sponsor for the visa?<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

The university arranges the student visas and acts as sponsors for tuition fee trainees and we will contact offer holders in June with the CAS number that they require for their visa application.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

DBS and Safeguarding<\/h2>\n

Who carries out the DBS check for Lead Partner recruited RPTs?<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

The university is responsible for DBS checks for Lead Partner RPTs. We cannot accept checks carried out by schools or other third parties unless they are registered with the update service (see below).\u00a0 Further instructions for applying for the DBS are sent to offer holders from March onwards and can also be found on our DBS details page<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span>. We do not carry out the checks more than 6 months in advance of the course start date.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

I want to check whether a current student undertook a DBS check before starting the course.\u00a0 Where can I get this information?<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

We do not allow any students to fully enrol for the course unless they have met all safeguarding conditions including an Enhanced DBS check and medical assessment. DBS certificates are the property of the trainee (we don\u2019t keep a copy on their record<\/span>)<\/span>\u00a0and they can also self-serve a letter from their university student RISIS portal which confirms their DBS certificate number and issue date.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Does the university accept DBS checks through the update service?<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

Yes \u2013 provided it meets specified criteria. Further details can be found on our DBS webpage.<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

How do my RPTs find out about the <\/span>medical fitness to teach procedure?<\/span><\/h3>\n

Details and instructions are included in the offer email<\/span>. We do not start the fitness to teach assessment process more than 6 months in advance of the course start date <\/span><\/span>Further details are available here.<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

What other safeguarding checks do the university undertake for new RPTs?<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

We will check all Lead Partner Tuition Fee students against the DfE Teachers prohibition order register. We will also ask all Lead Partner Tuition Fee students to complete a Childcare Disqualification Regulations declaration form.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

RPTs who declare that they have spent 6 months or more in a country outside the UK in the past 5 years will also be required to provide a letter of good conduct (sometimes known as a Police Certificate or Certificate of Good conduct) from the country or countries they have lived in.<\/span><\/p>\n
