Each sign has a unique QR code which directs the walker to a URL with more information about the habitat and the species that can be found there.<\/p>\n<p>Nature lovers can get lost in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/whiteknightsbiodiversity\/2022\/02\/04\/the-wilderness\/\">the Wilderness<\/a>, feed the ducks that call\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/whiteknightsbiodiversity\/2022\/02\/04\/whiteknights-lake\/\">Whiteknights Lake<\/a>\u00a0home, look out for butterflies on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/whiteknightsbiodiversity\/2022\/02\/04\/meadows\/\">Meadows\u00a0<\/a>and bees on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/whiteknightsbiodiversity\/2022\/02\/08\/pollinator-lawn\/\">Pollinator Lawns<\/a>, visit the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/whiteknightsbiodiversity\/2022\/02\/04\/rewilding-areas\/\">Rewilding Area<\/a>\u00a0to see the change over time and enjoy a picnic on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/whiteknightsbiodiversity\/2022\/02\/08\/wooded-meadows\/\">Wooded Meadows<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"right-img-thumbnail-small\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/news\/-\/media\/news\/images\/tiles\/university-news\/whiteknights-lake.jpg?h=189&amp;w=268.25&amp;hash=68B6405B366A9044E485736ADDBE2FB4\" alt=\"Nature trail sign for Whiteknights Lake\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The trail takes roughly 30 minutes to walk around and can be completed as a circular walk, starting and finishing close to central campus bars and cafes, or visited in sections.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Mark Fellowes, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic Planning &amp; Resource), said: \u201cWhiteknights Campus is a haven for wildlife in urban Reading. Colleagues across the University have ensured that it has stayed this way, and given the biodiversity crisis these green oases become ever more important.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope that this new trail will help staff, students and the local community engage even more with the nature that surrounds them every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The signs were funded by the Friends of the University of Reading and were designed by Gaia Zwiers-Mortier, a final year Zoology student.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Staff, students and visitors to the University of Reading can now learn more about wildlife on campus thanks to a new\u00a0self-guided nature trail.
