When the clinicians do not speak the same languages as you we will talk with you about whether we need to include an interpreter in the sessions.<\/p>\n<h2>FAQs about working with professional interpreters<\/h2>\n<h3>I need an interpreter to access the session \u2013 why can\u2019t a family member or friend interpret for me?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>In line with our policies, we provide a neutral interpreter to ensure that everything is translated\u00a0impartially, making sessions fair\u00a0and accessible for clients and staff<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Providing an interpreter reduces the pressure on your friend or family member and allows them to support you fully<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>You are invited to still bring a friend or family member with you for support if you feel this would be beneficial<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0need an interpreter, my English is excellent<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Our decision to use an interpreter has no reflection on your use of English, and the majority of your session\/s can still be delivered in English<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In this case we use an interpreter to ensure we understand all your language usage and any difficulties you may have across languages<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The interpreter is for the benefit of your speech therapist, so that they can assess or deliver intervention using all your languages<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If\u00a0you do not wish to work with your other languages, please make your speech therapist aware as we will respect your language priorities and preferences<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>I\u2019m\u00a0not sure I trust a stranger to interpret for me<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>All interpreters are trained to handle your communications with confidentiality and professionalism<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A speech therapist will be present at all\u00a0time, and all therapists hold an enhanced DBS check and are trained in safeguarding and confidentiality<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>At the start of your session, you will have the opportunity to be introduced to your interpreter and raise any questions that you may have<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If you have any concerns about your interpreter, please raise these immediately with your speech therapist.
