The EAUC's Green Gown awards ceremony is fast approaching, where the University is shortlisted in the 'carbon reduction' category. Recycling League: Minghella takes top spot!

Breaking news: the first set of results for the Recycling League are now in for the new academic year!  Congratulations to everyone in the Minghella building - you've achieved the top spot with a fantastic recycling rate of 88%, keep up the good work. However, close on Minghella's heels in joint second place are Whiteknights House and Central Catering (Park House and Eat @ The Square) with a brilliant recycling rate of 83%. An outstanding achievement once again! The University of Reading's Environmental Management System for Whiteknights and London Rd has achieved the international standard ISO 14001 and the EcoCampus Platinum award for the second time running! Our continued carbon reduction achievements have been recognised with two shortlistings for the national Sustainability Leaders Award. We are one of 7 www.edie.netcompanies shortlisted in the Carbon Management category, recognising how we are building on our carbon emissions cuts of over 20% in the last 4 years.  Specifically, the shortlisting recognises how the tools we have developed are providing a clear vision of how we can continuously reduce our carbon emissions into the future. Morris and Blunt go green

  University Building contractor, Morris and Blunt have invested in low carbon technology, in the form of an electric vehicle. Taking advantage of their locality to the Whiteknights Campus, Morris and Blunt have taken the opportunity to work in the spirit of the University's aim to reduce carbon emissions by 35% 2015/16. This will fit in nicely with the existing electric fleet on campus, including the Clean&Green van and the Microbiology transport units. Morris & Blunt Ltd is an established main contractor builder specialising in public sector new build, extension and refurbishment work.

Green Impact 2013/14

Here’s the news we’ve all been waiting to hear: the results of the Green Impact Awards 2013/14! It’s been another busy year with a record number of entries. Some of the highlights include the School of Construction Management & Engineering, Institute of Education – Technical Team and 2 new UPP teams joining the awards. Latest carbon reduction projects underway

Here’s our latest carbon reduction project news.  Lighting improvements We’ve been investing in lots more energy efficient lighting, with improvements in 3 of the SAGES (School of Archaeology, Geography and Environmental Science) buildings now pretty much complete.  As well as more modern, efficient light fittings, intelligent sensors have been installed to make sure the lights dim/turn off when there is either sufficient daylight, or no one is present.  Further lighting work is shortly due to begin in the Maths & IT building and the Harborne building and our thanks go to the Green Impact teams in both buildings, who highlighted…
