\"SDGDisplay Energy Certificates (DECs<\/abbr>) are designed to show the energy performance of public buildings.<\/p>\n

They use a scale that runs from \u2018A\u2019 to \u2018G\u2019 - \u2018A\u2019 being the most efficient and \u2018G\u2019 being the least.\u00a0DECs<\/abbr>\u00a0last for 1 year for buildings with a total useful floor area more than 1,000 m2<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

They last for 10 years when the total useful floor area is over 250\u00a0m2<\/sup> and up to 1,000 m2<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

All new buildings are now designed with energy efficiency in mind. For example, the Carrington Building and Hopkins Building, as well as recent hall developments, are highly efficient structures and once complete, the new Library is expected to reduce its carbon emissions by 30%. In 2009\/10, 34% of University buildings were above average for energy efficiency.\u00a0 In 2017\/18, this had risen to 73% above average.<\/p>\n
