Guided Sustainability Walking Tour - <\/span><\/span>24 September 2025<\/h3>\n

We held a Sustainability Walking Tour during Welcome Week as an opportunity for students to get to know the university through a green lens, and how the University of Reading is leading the way in creating a greener, more sustainable future! This engaging and interactive tour introduced students to the many sustainable projects happening right here on campus from travel offers and energy saving technologies to sustainable events and how they can get involved. Little Learners <\/span>Fairtrade Session - <\/span><\/span>21 May 2025<\/h3>\n

We held a session on Fairtrade for a class of 3-5 year olds at the Little Learners Nursery. The session outcomes involved understanding what Fairtrade meant, as well as understanding that choosing Fairtrade makes a difference to farmers and workers around the world. Fairtrade bananas were given to the children at the end of the day, and activities such as colouring and fair\/unfair Fairtrade stories were completed.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

      We held an event in the Library with a fun interactive waste quiz to grab people attention, and then spoke to them about the Reading Experience and Development (RED) Sustainable Action Award. There was information available regarding why they should join, what it entails and next steps.<\/p>\n

          Show Your Stripes took place on Friday 21 June 2024. There was a staff celebration and sustainable action event on Whiteknights campus, which attracted in the region of 500 staff. The day featured the Sustainability team, fairground stalls, ice cream, a rounders tournament and food stalls. We had a great day, having many inspiring conversations and the day culminated with Professor Ed Hawkins giving a talk at Reading Town Hall. The Climate Stripes were projected onto many landmarks around the world, highlighting the need to speed up climate action around the globe.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>

              On the first Wednesday of each month during term time the Sustainability team run engagement events in the library foyer. Recent events included:<\/p>\n

              - 1 May 24 Biodiversity quiz to celebrate and raise awareness<\/p>\n

              - 7 Feb 24 promotion of Doing UoR Bit platform, newsletter and social media.<\/p>\n

              - 6 Dec 23 people could meet the Sustainability Service elves for tips on how to save energy over the winter break and ways to make festive celebrations a bit more sustainable.<\/p>\n

              - 8 Nov 23 Sustainability Services promoted our upcoming Green Festival, which was held later that month.<\/p>\n

              - 4 Oct 23 Reading Buses joined us to play 'The Destination Game' with staff and students to promote their services and raise awareness of our free Park and Ride service. Prizes included 2 free trips and the chance to win a termly bus pass.<\/p>\n

              - 3 May 2023 the Sustainability team hosted a mastermind challenge event in the Library from 11-13:30. Entrants had to answer 3 questions correctly in a minute to win a prize. A fantastic way to engage different audiences.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>
