The University of Reading has adopted a <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/sustainability\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2022\/03\/Re-use-Policy-2022.pdf\">Re-Use policy<\/a> which embeds the importance of seeking \u201cto promote re-use of items that are still fit for purpose and in good condition\u201d..\u201das a preferred alternative to disposal\/recycling and as an environmentally friendly alternative to buying new\u201d. The policy sets out a re-use hierarchy which gives internal re-use within the University the priority, then re-use within the local community, which is then followed by re-use by staff or students for personal use.<\/p>\n<p>Surplus furniture from across the University is managed using our <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/sustainability\/recycling\/re-use\/warp-it\/\">Warpit portal<\/a>, to which any member of staff can request to access and can then advertise \/ claim items for internal University use for free.
