Consistently in the top 5 for several years, Reading shows how serious it is about tackling environmental challenges. This latest milestone reflects the university\u2019s passion for weaving sustainability into everything it does from daily operations to teaching and community outreach.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the People &amp; Planet University League?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>People &amp; Planet is the UK\u2019s largest student led organization for environmental and social justice, releases an <a href=\"https:\/\/peopleandplanet.org\/university-league\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">annual league table<\/a> that evaluates universities on their sustainability efforts. They look at critical areas like cutting carbon emissions, ethical investments, and climate focused education. The competition is fierce, but Reading\u2019s consistent top rankings highlight just how deeply it cares about sustainability.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A Look at Reading\u2019s Sustainability Wins<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the latest rankings, Reading scored an impressive 74%, which qualifies as a first class university rating, with standout performances in these areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Policy and Strategy (100%)<\/strong>: The University of Reading has set a range of bold targets, including: to reduce carbon emissions, become Net Zero by 2030, reduce the impact of its business travel and reduce the amount of waste person generated.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Energy and Environmental Management Systems (100%)<\/strong>: The University keeps a close eye on its environmental impact through detailed audits and operates a combined energy and environmental management system. From <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/sustainability\/energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tracking energy use<\/a> to improving <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/sustainability\/recycling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">waste management<\/a>, Reading is always looking for ways to do better.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sustainable Food (100%)<\/strong>: When it comes to food, Reading is setting the standard.
