You may have spotted something bright and new around Palmer Quad – pink Gumdrop bins have been installed across Whiteknights campus. They are part of a new initiative to keep our campus clean, save money, and help the environment.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why Do We Need These Gum Bins?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Did you know that cleaning chewing gum off the pavements in Palmer Quad costs the university \u00a36,000 every time? Gum is tough, therefore it requires specialist equipment and is time-consuming work. Additionally, gum contains plastic, which makes it non-biodegradable and harmful to the environment, as well as an unpleasant eyesore.<\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s Special About the New Gum Bins?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The new bins, called Gumdrop bins<\/a>, are bright pink and easy to spot, they are attached to lampposts all around Palmer Quad so you won\u2019t miss them! They\u2019re designed specifically for chewing\u00a0\u00a0gum disposal, helping you get rid of your gum in a clean, responsible way.<\/span><\/p>\n

Did you know that the gum collected from these bins does not just end up in landfill. It is recycled to make new products such as pens, cups, trainers, as well as even more gum bins!<\/span><\/p>\n
