{"id":17309,"date":"2025-10-09T19:43:01","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T19:43:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/sustainability\/?p=17309"},"modified":"2025-11-26T08:29:24","modified_gmt":"2025-11-26T08:29:24","slug":"thames-valley-park-ride-free-travel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/sustainability\/2025\/10\/09\/thames-valley-park-ride-free-travel\/","title":{"rendered":"New Free Thames Valley Park &amp; Ride for University Staff and Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"730\" data-end=\"940\">Following the success of the Mereoak Park and Ride scheme, University of Reading staff and students can now also use the Thames Valley Park (TVP) Park and Ride site free of charge when travelling to campus.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"942\" data-end=\"1106\">This new offer is possible thanks to our ongoing partnership with the Royal Berkshire Hospital (RBH) and Reading Buses, who run the 300 Park &amp; Ride service.<\/p>\n<h5><strong><u>How it works<\/u><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Staff and students can park at <strong data-start=\"1162\" data-end=\"1184\">Thames Valley Park<\/strong> and take the <strong data-start=\"1198\" data-end=\"1231\">Reading Buses 300 Park &amp; Ride<\/strong> to reach the University\u2019s Reading campuses.<\/p>\n<p>Parking and bus travel are both free &#8211; the University covers all costs.<\/p>\n<h5><strong><u>How to use the Park and Ride<\/u><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p data-start=\"1390\" data-end=\"1478\">Travelling from TVP is quick and easy. Follow the steps below to get to campus for free.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1480\" data-end=\"1507\"><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Parking at TVP<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1509\" data-end=\"1555\">When you arrive at the TVP Park and Ride site:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li data-start=\"1560\" data-end=\"1612\">Press the <strong data-start=\"1570\" data-end=\"1579\">Corp3<\/strong> button on the parking machine.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1616\" data-end=\"1688\">Enter the <strong data-start=\"1626\" data-end=\"1651\">University code A0491<\/strong> and press the green <strong data-start=\"1672\" data-end=\"1678\">OK<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1692\" data-end=\"1753\">Enter your <strong data-start=\"1703\" data-end=\"1727\">vehicle registration<\/strong> and press <strong data-start=\"1738\" data-end=\"1744\">OK<\/strong> again.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1757\" data-end=\"1839\">Print your ticket. You don\u2019t need to display it, but please keep it for reference.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"1841\" data-end=\"1944\">Please note: each ticket is valid for one day, so you\u2019ll need to repeat the process each time you park.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1946\" data-end=\"1979\"><strong>Step 2: <\/strong>Travelling to Campus<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1981\" data-end=\"2222\">After parking, take the Reading Buses 300 Park &amp; Ride service. The route connects Thames Valley Park, Christchurch Green, and the Royal Berkshire Hospital, with frequent buses throughout the day (<a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reading-buses.co.uk\/services\/RBUS\/300\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"2193\" data-end=\"2220\">see the timetable here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"2226\" data-end=\"2292\">Use the <strong data-start=\"2234\" data-end=\"2256\">Christchurch Green<\/strong> stop for <strong data-start=\"2266\" data-end=\"2289\">Whiteknights Campus<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2295\" data-end=\"2364\">Use the <strong data-start=\"2303\" data-end=\"2331\">Royal Berkshire Hospital<\/strong> stop for <strong data-start=\"2341\" data-end=\"2363\">London Road Campus<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2366\" data-end=\"2436\">Show your <strong data-start=\"2376\" data-end=\"2402\">University Campus Card<\/strong> to the driver to travel for free.<\/p>\n<h5><strong><u>Why use the Park &amp; Ride?<\/u><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p data-start=\"2473\" data-end=\"2644\">The Park &amp; Ride service offers a convenient, sustainable, and low-cost way to travel to campus. It helps you save time, reduce travel costs, and cut your carbon footprint.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2646\" data-end=\"3063\">The expansion to include Thames Valley Park builds on the success of the Mereoak Park &amp; Ride, which has seen strong use since its launch. Feedback from the 2024 Travel Survey showed high demand for greener, more affordable travel options and highlighted the need to reduce congestion near campus.
