{"id":975,"date":"2013-08-12T14:48:33","date_gmt":"2013-08-12T13:48:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/engage-in-teaching-and-learning\/?p=975"},"modified":"2019-10-04T15:37:13","modified_gmt":"2019-10-04T15:37:13","slug":"moving-forward-with-technology-enhanced-learning-at-the-university-of-reading-by-vicki-holmes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/t-and-l-exchange\/2013\/08\/12\/moving-forward-with-technology-enhanced-learning-at-the-university-of-reading-by-vicki-holmes\/","title":{"rendered":"Moving forward with Technology Enhanced Learning at the University of Reading&#8230; by Vicki Holmes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Digital Development Forum in July was an ideal opportunity to begin sharing some of the thinking and planning around Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) that has been happening over the last 6 months.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2013 the TEL Strategy Group was established, chaired by Professor Gavin Brooks and with representation from across the University.\u00a0\u00a0 The Strategy Group has met 4 times to date.\u00a0 In addition, Professor Julian Park (Associate Dean Teaching and Learning for Faculty of Life Sciences), Kara Swift (VP Academic Affairs 2012-2013) and myself have been part of the \u2018Changing the Learning Landscape\u2019 programme, a national initiative to help universities develop their thinking and practice around TEL.\u00a0 This has involved participating in a series of workshops, and meeting and sharing practice with colleagues from other HEIs.<\/p>\n<p><b>So what has been the output from this?\u00a0\u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n<p>We have identified 3 strands of activity that we feel are crucial to Reading\u2019s TEL development:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To further embed <b>existing <\/b>technologies, underpinned by expectations of use \u2013 we want to ensure that our current technologies are fit for purpose and being used to the full<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>To develop and explore <b>new<\/b> areas of TEL activity and other technologies \u2013 we want to look to the future and ensure that we keep pace and, at times, lead the way<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>To embed and support the above with <b>foundational and cross-cutting<\/b> initiatives \u2013 we want to ensure that all TEL initiatives are appropriately supported and underpinned<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Within each strand, we have identified 2 priority areas and created projects to take these forward.\u00a0 All 6 projects will have a nominated lead; the lead will then involve other staff to support and progress the project.\u00a0 Some projects are well underway, while others are in the early stages.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, an audit has also been undertaken (drawing on the Digitally Ready project, as well as interviews with other universities and national surveys) to help understand our current position.<\/p>\n<p><b>So what next?\u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n<p>In the Autumn term there will be some formal communications to the whole University from the PVC Teaching and Learning about the TEL vision and activity.<\/p>\n<p>With respect to the 6 projects, expect to hear more as they gather pace.\u00a0\u00a0 We will be inviting you to get involved \u2013 your input will be crucial in informing the direction and ensuring that TEL meets your and your students\u2019 needs.<\/p>\n<p>My presentation from the event is available on <a title=\"Yammer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yammer.com\/reading.ac.uk\/uploaded_files\/11635936\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yammer<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Digital Development Forum in July was an ideal opportunity to begin sharing some of the thinking and planning around Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) that has been happening over the last 6 months.
