Blackboard Assignment – Peer Review

A Peer Assignment allows you to provide feedback about the submissions of other students (‘peers’).

There are three parts:

  • Part 1: Submission: upload your own work, for review by your peers.
  • Part 2: Review: after the submission deadline has passed, you can review the submissions of others..
  • Part 3: Instructor feedback: once the review deadline has passed, your instructor can provide an overall mark and feedback. They can see:
    – your original submission
    – reviews from your peers
    – reviews that you provided to your peers

Part 1: How to submit your own work, for review by peers

  1. Open the submission point. You will see the

a)Assessment due date: the deadline to upload your work,
b)Attempts: the number of attempts you are allowed to submit,
c)Peer Review: the number of peer reviews you need to complete and the deadline for this.

2. Click View instructions.

3. Read the Assignment Content instructions. You may be asked to download a file that contains details to help you complete the submission, for example a template to complete and upload, or a checklist help you review submissions of other students. If there is a file provided, click the triple dot icon to download.

4. Enter your work into the Submission area (for example, upload a file). Do not add your name to your work or the Submission area.
(If entering text into the box, we recommend that you first write your answers in a separate document, then copy & paste into the submission box (this prevents loss of text prior to clicking submit, for example if you were to lose connectivity).

5. If you wish to save progress and return later to submit, then choose Save and Close. If the submission is ready, click Submit (from the bottom right-hand corner of the screen).

6. You will then be asked to confirm your submission. Select Submit again to complete the submission process.

After submitting, you can select View submission to revisit your work. Once the submission deadline has passed, you can begin peer review.

Part 2: How to access and conduct peer reviews

Once the Assessment due date has passed, you can begin the peer review.

  1. Reopen the submission point.
  2. Click Start peer reviews. This will open the allocated peer submissions you need to review, they are delegated at random (it is not possible to configure this) and it is not possible for students to see each other’s names during the review process (unless students have chosen to name themselves by typing their name onto their submission and/or review). Your instructor will be able to see all student reviews and names attached to these.

3. Now it is time to review the submission and provide feedback.

  • a) Check the instructions carefully, your instructor may have included a file for you to view or download.
  • b) You can see the submission under ‘Submission content’. Review this carefully, using the instructions given to you.
  • c) Enter your review in the Feedback for Student box (right-hand-side of the screen). Your assessor will give guidance about the format you should use to provide feedback (if you need to upload something, use the plus icon to make an attachment).

If you wish to return to complete the feedback later, click Save Draft. Only click Submit when you have finished entering your review. After submission, it is not possible to further edit your review. Your assessor and peers will be able to see the feedback you have provided.

Your instructor and peers will be able to see the feedback you have provided. Your peers will not see your name attached to the feedback you provide, however, your instructor will see all names attached to peer reviews.

Part 3. Access feedback

Once marks are released, reopen the submission point and select Your Marks. You can access:

  • (a) An overall mark.
  • (b) Marking rubric (if one has been used by your instructor for grading).
  • (c) Feedback from instructor (right hand side of the screen).
  • (d) Anonymous feedback from peers (right hand side of the screen).
  • (e) Your reviews, that you wrote about your peers (left hand side of the screen).
