Blackboard Messages

Your instructors can send you and your coursemates messages from Blackboard courses. Blackboard messages may be sent to you, to all members of a group you’re in, to a selection of people or to all course members. 

Your instructor may choose to send you an email copy of a Blackboard message. 

You cannot create, respond to or forward Blackboard messages. Your instructor will advise you on the best way you can contact them:

To see messages for all courses select Messages from the Base Navigation, which is Blackboard’s main menu. The number on the messages icon indicates the number of unread messages. This will change to a purple dot once you’re inside the messages page.

Inside a Blackboard course, you can access all the messages for that course from the navigation bar, by opening the course messages page. Here you can see the list of messages and open any message. You see a number on the tab indicating unread messages in the course. 

Unread messages will appear first, with a number next to the sender’s name indicating the number of messages they have sent. Under the sender’s name you can see who the message has been sent to (e.g. to you, all course members, or a specific group):

When you have a message open, you can navigate to the next or previous messages in the list, using the ‘View previous messages’ and ‘Next message’ at the top of the page:
