When submitting to Blackboard Assignment you will be given the chance to check a preview of the document before submitting. You can also check your submission after you have submitted (as long as the submission point is still visible), and you will also receive a receipt for your submitted work.

Check your submission
When you upload a document to a Blackboard Assignment (or other Blackboard assessments such as a Journal or Discussion post or Test essay question) you will be given the opportunity to preview the document by scrolling through it to check it is the correct version and that it has all uploaded correctly.
- Use the document scroll bar (a) to check the whole preview.
- Use the text editor scroll bar (b) to view any other written work or attachments in the text editor
- If uploading multiple documents check each preview before uploading the next document, it is not possible to open and preview an uploaded document (c).

After you have submitted (if the submission point is still visible) you will be able to return to the submission and check it by clicking on the submission link in the Assignment panel or on the attempts submitted link.
In this view you will be able to preview multiple documents, if you have uploaded more than one. use the top menu to toggle between documents.
Please note: Clicking View Instructions again after submission will start a new attempt, and does not access your current submission. Exiting a blank submission will create a new draft.
Submission Receipt
Once you have submitted your work, you will see a success message in a pop-up window.
- You will be able to download this receipt and save it to your OneDrive.
- In addition, you will receive an email receipt. The email receipt will be sent to your University email address.
The receipt will contain the following information:
- the assignment title
- date and time of submission
- the file size and name of the files you submitted
- a unique confirmation number
- link to view submission (on emailed version)
The receipt also includes “Size of text entered in ‘Write Submission’ area”, which will normally be 0. This refers to the unusual situation where students type their work directly into Blackboard rather than uploading a file.
Where you are required to submit work to a Group Assignment, when one member of a group submits to the assignment, all members of the group will receive an email receipt.
Please note:
- Do not delete the email receipt – you should retain it as proof of submission.
- This receipt only indicates that a submission has been made by you on the date and time shown, and received by Blackboard.
- It is not confirmation that a file you have submitted is correct or has uploaded properly. Always check the files you have submitted to make sure that they can be viewed or downloaded.
Accessing submission information
You can return to your submission any time, in the panel you will give key information such as the time and date of your submission and how many attempts you have left.
Click on the submission to open and check that it is the correct document. You will be able to see the submission time and date details as well as the confirmation number on the submission screen. This will correspond with your submission reciept.
