Your instructor can enable Class Conversations for individual content items on Blackboard, so you can ask questions or discuss the content with your instructor and classmates. Conversations are different from Discussions, in that they belong to specific content items, such as documents, assignments and tests.
Accessing and responding to Conversations
Once enabled, Conversations will appear under the three dot menu next to the content item they’re attached to. You can access the Conversation by opening this menu and selecting ‘Conversation’.
When someone starts the conversation or makes a new contribution, a blue ‘new activity’ indicator appears next to the content item’s title.
Another indicator for new activity is a purple dot appearing on the ‘Open Class Conversations’ icon on the top right-hand corner of the panel, as you open a content item. You can also open the Conversation by clicking on this icon:
On the Conversations page, you can see a list of five participants, which includes the most active participants so far. You can also search other participants.
You can type your own response to the conversation topic, and reply to others’ responses. As with Discussions, there are two levels of replies to each top-level response in Conversations.
New responses will be highlighted in purple, with a ‘New’ indicator next to them:
You can use the editor to format text, attach files or embed media such as images or videos in your response. You can also save your response as draft and come back to it later:
When you save a draft, it appears with a border and a ‘Draft’ badge. You can edit or delete the draft by clicking the three-dot menu:
Conversations are not marked. They are for your instructor to support you and for you to share ideas with your classmates about your course content.
