You cannot submit a video file directly to Blackboard.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#requirements\">What will I need?<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#tools\">What tools work best?<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#upload\">Upload a video to YuJa<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"requirements\">What Will I Need?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You may be asked to record a variety of videos for assessment, depending on your programme, although you are most likely to be asked to record a presentation that involves capturing your screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you just need to record a video of yourself talking and nothing else (no screens etc), then you can do this with any device that has a camera and microphone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What you\u2019ll need:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>a webcam (or phone camera)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a microphone (your webcam may have one built in).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Record using a laptop or desktop, instead of recording using your phone, if possible. Phones can produce different types of video <a href=\"https:\/\/support.yuja.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/360041319034-Manually-Uploading-Media-Content#h_01HK7YV6XEK1S14Z20WKSMMYNK:~:text=Formats%20Supported%20Include%3A%20wmv%2C%20.asf%2C%20.flv%2C%20.f4v%2C%20.f4a%2C%20.avi%2C%20.mp3%2C%20.mpg%2C%20.mpeg%2C%20.mps%2C%20.ps%2C%20.mp2%2C%20.m2v%2C%20.m2a%2C.ts%2C%20.tsv%2C%20.tsa%2C%20.mts%2C%20.m2ts%2C%20.tod%2C%20.mp4%2C%20.m4a%2C%20.m4v%2C%20.3gp%2C%20.mov%2C%20.mts%20(AVCHD)%2C%20Flash%20video%2C%20.webm%2C%20.mxf%2C%20.dv.%2C%20.docx%2C%20.pdf.%2C%20.srt%2C%20.vtt%2C%20.txt%2C%20.csv%2C%20.xlsx%2C%20.pptx%2C%20.psd.%C2%A0\">file format that YuJa may not accept<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To record a presentation, or record content on your screen, there are a few different options. It\u2019s important you find one that works well for you and is easy to use on your device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tools\">What tool works best?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We recommend using a recording tool which you are comfortable with. If you are familiar with one way of recording already, then we do not recommend trying to learn a new tool ahead of an assessment. Not all recording methods are suitable, however, and you may want to try some of the options below to find what works best with your device and with your way of working before you begin trying to record for assessment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We recommend using one of the free tools available as part of your University membership, such as YuJa or PowerPoint, rather than considering third-party tools that cannot be supported by DTS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have any issues while using these tools, please get in touch via the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support-students\/contact-support\/\">Self-Service Portal<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#yuja\">Recording with YuJa<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#ppt\">Recording with PowerPoint<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#teams\">Recording with Teams<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#mac\">Screen Recording for Mac<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Recording with YuJa<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To make the most of this article, we recommend activating your account in YuJa and logging in to <a href=\"https:\/\/login.microsoftonline.com\/\">Office 365<\/a> \u2013 it\u2019s free as part of your University enrolment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YuJa offers a <a href=\"https:\/\/support.yuja.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/360046033333-Using-the-Browser-Capture-Studio\">browser-based recorder<\/a> as well as a downloadable <a href=\"https:\/\/support.yuja.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/360042295893-Creating-a-Recording-with-the-Software-Capture-for-PC-Application\">Software Capture Application<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both of these methods allow you to record audio and either a webcam, screen input, or both screen and webcam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Software Capture application allows for additional inputs and greater granularity in terms of the quality of the final video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What you\u2019ll need:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>a browser to record with the Browser Capture or a PC\/Mac to record with the Software Capture Application<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a Microphone (your webcam may have one built in)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a Webcam (optional).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Creating recordings with either of these methods will automatically upload your video to the My Media are of YuJa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YuJa offers <a href=\"https:\/\/support.yuja.com\/hc\/en-us\/sections\/360007024194-Editing-Captures\">a browser-based editor<\/a>, which can be used to make cuts and more advanced edits to your videos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use YuJa for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>recording just camera and audio input<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>recording PowerPoint or other slide presentations with or without camera<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>recording on-screen demonstrations with or without camera<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>recording multiple camera\/screen inputs (only via the Software Capture Application).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ppt\">Recording with PowerPoint<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>PowerPoint has an in-built recorder to let you record your presentation with narration, your presentation with narration and a camera input (Office 365), or just your screen. You have&nbsp;access to <a href=\"https:\/\/login.microsoftonline.com\/\">Office 365<\/a> for free with your University enrolment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What you\u2019ll need:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Microsoft Office (PowerPoint)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a microphone (your webcam may have one built in)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a webcam (optional).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to record a presentation with slides, you can do this in PowerPoint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/record-a-slide-show-with-narration-and-slide-timings-0b9502c6-5f6c-40ae-b1e7-e47d8741161c\">This Microsoft Office support article covers the method for Office 365, earlier versions of Windows, Mac OS and PowerPoint online<\/a>. This option can be found on the \u2018Slide Show\u2019 tab under \u2018Record Slide Show\u2019. PowerPoint presentations cut audio whilst changing slides, so take a brief pause before moving to the next slide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to record something which isn\u2019t in PowerPoint, You can&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/record-your-screen-in-powerpoint-0b4c3f65-534c-4cf1-9c59-402b6e9d79d0\">record a section of your screen,<\/a>&nbsp;by clicking on the \u2018Insert\u2019 tab and selecting \u2018Screen Recording\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Be aware that there is no in-built editor for cutting out sections, but you can re-record individual slides if you need to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Presentations created using either of these methods can be<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>saved as a PowerPoint presentation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/turn-your-presentation-into-a-video-c140551f-cb37-4818-b5d4-3e30815c3e83\">exported as a video<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>Please note that saving a PowerPoint file as a video can greatly increase the file size. We recommend that you choose the&nbsp;<strong>Standard&nbsp;<\/strong>quality setting when exporting to video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another way to reduce file size is to compress images in the presentation. See this Microsoft support guide on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/office\/reduce-the-file-size-of-a-picture-in-microsoft-office-8db7211c-d958-457c-babd-194109eb9535\">reducing the file size of a picture in Microsoft Office<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"teams\">MS Teams<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can set up and record a Teams meeting &#8211; see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-gb\/office\/record-a-meeting-in-microsoft-teams-34dfbe7f-b07d-4a27-b4c6-de62f1348c24\">Recording a meeting in Microsoft Teams<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recording will be saved in your university OneDrive in a folder marked Recordings and will automatically be deleted after 90 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"mac\">Screen Recording for Mac<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Mac users can&nbsp;download Office 365 for Mac&nbsp;as part of their University membership. Alternatively, Mac has its own screen recording tools available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-gb\/guide\/mac-help\/mh26782\/mac\">macOS<\/a>, press Shift-Command (\u2318)-5 on your keyboard to see all the controls you need to record video and capture still images of your screen. Use these onscreen controls to select whether to&nbsp;record the entire screen,&nbsp;record a selected portion&nbsp;or&nbsp;capture a still image.&nbsp;If you are using an older version of macOS, you can&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-gb\/HT208721#quicktime\">record the screen with QuickTime Player<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Export at a lower resolution to export to mp4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Uploading Video to YuJa<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You should not upload video files directly to Blackboard assignments for assessment.
