{"id":5154,"date":"2024-03-22T12:05:55","date_gmt":"2024-03-22T12:05:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support-students\/?p=5154"},"modified":"2026-04-20T09:33:03","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T08:33:03","slug":"using-gradebook-to-view-your-marks-and-feedback","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support-students\/using-gradebook-to-view-your-marks-and-feedback\/","title":{"rendered":"Using Gradebook to view your marks and feedback"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Gradebook tab can be found on the top menu on your course.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When something new has been added to the Gradebook, such as new marks and feedback being posted, a notification will appear next to the Gradebook tab, the number indicates how many new items you have to view. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#gradebook\">The Gradebook<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#turnitin\">Viewing Turnitin feedback <\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#blackboard\">Viewing feedback in Blackboard tools (Assignment, tests, Discussion and Journals)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"gradebook\">The Gradebook<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Gradebook you will see an overview of all your course assignments, unless they have been hidden from students for administrative reasons. Any marks will be posted here. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>(a) New items will be indicated by a purple dot to the left of the item name.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(b) The Mark column will show either the mark or the submission status (not submitted\/submitted\/not marked) or the mark given.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(c) For some assessment types a feedback icon will appear in the feedback column (this will not be the case for Turnitin or Gradescope)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"890\" height=\"449\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/93\/2024\/08\/Student-feedback-111.png\" alt=\"Gradebook icons explained as per a to c of text\" class=\"wp-image-6377\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/93\/2024\/08\/Student-feedback-111.png 890w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/93\/2024\/08\/Student-feedback-111-768x387.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 890px) 100vw, 890px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>Important: <strong>Use Gradebook to see your initial mark but check RISIS for your most up-to-date marks<\/strong>. Marks in Gradebook are not updated with changes as a result of moderation, late submission penalties or academic misconduct processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"turnitin\">Viewing Turnitin feedback<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For Turnitin Assignments<strong> click on the item name<\/strong> or the mark.  A panel will open on the right-hand side of the screen, click on <strong>Launch<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Turnitin will open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>(d) Click on the submission title, the submission will open in the feedback studio where you can view your feedback.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(e) Resubmission button will be blocked after the due date.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(f) Download a copy of your submission (from the feedback studio you can download the submission with annotations)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(g) Download a copy of the submission receipt. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"852\" height=\"220\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/93\/2024\/08\/Student-feedback-117.png\" alt=\"Turnitin dashboard d to f of text\" class=\"wp-image-6385\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/93\/2024\/08\/Student-feedback-117.png 852w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/93\/2024\/08\/Student-feedback-117-768x198.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 852px) 100vw, 852px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"blackboard\">Viewing Blackboard feedback<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For Blackboard tools you will see a <strong>purple feedback icon (c)<\/strong> in the feedback column.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Blackboard tools\n<ul>\n<li>Assignment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Test<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discussions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Journals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two ways to access your feedback (g) click on the item name (h) click on the purple feedback icon in the feedback column.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"680\" height=\"306\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/93\/2024\/08\/Student-feedback-113-1.png\" alt=\"Blackboard tool feedback access in Grade centre g and h. \" class=\"wp-image-6386\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Access via item name (g)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you click on the item name the assessment panel will open and you can access your submission, including the feedback. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the panel opens you can click on the your mark area (i) or the view submissions button (j). Either place<strong> <\/strong>will open<a href=\"#submission\"> your submission and feedback<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"360\" height=\"457\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/93\/2024\/08\/Student-feedback-114-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6387\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Access via feedback icon (h)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you<strong> <\/strong>click on the feedback icon a panel will open with your mark and feedback details. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>(k) General additional feedback &#8211; <strong>this is not the feedback on your submission<\/strong>, not all markers will choose to add feedback here.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(l) Attempts will be listed below &#8211; attempts that have been marked will have a purple feedback icon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"376\" height=\"351\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/93\/2024\/08\/Student-feedback-115-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6388\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on the Attempt with the mark to <strong>open your submission<\/strong> and see the feedback added to your submission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"submission\">Your submission and feedback<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There may be summary feedback, annotations, feedback per questions etc. depending on the individual tool. Your marker may not used all the avenues available. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Attempt Feedback for this attempt. This might be the only feedback used if only one submission version is marked. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The rubric provides details of how you met the marking criteria .
