Ask your support centre if unsure.\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#turnitin\">Turnitin<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#assignment\">Blackboard Assignment<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#test\">Blackboard Test<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#gradescope\">Gradescope <\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#hand\">Handwritten exams\/elements of exam<\/a> (essential advice for submitting handwritten or handwritten elements)\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#reduce\">How to reduce file size<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"before\">Get your computer ready<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important that you reduce any chance of technical problems during your exams by following this check list: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Update browser to latest available version.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Allow third-party cookies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enable pop-ups.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disable \u201cPrevent Cross-Site Tracking\u201d (Safari or MAC users)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/help.anthology.com\/browser-checker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Run browser compatibility check<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Download a second browser as a backup<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Download&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/digital-technology-services\/service-catalogue\/office-365\">Microsoft Office 365<\/a>&nbsp;to your computer (login to Office 365 using University of Reading email to download)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure assistive technologies work (if applicable)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use Online Exams Practice course&nbsp;familiarise with submission tools (e.g. Turnitin, Blackboard Assignments, Blackboard Tests or Gradescope).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using Mobile devices to submit online exams is not recommended, however, if you are still planning to use Blackboard App on an iOS device, please ensure &#8220;Prevent cross site tracking is disabled&#8221; and Third party cookies are allowed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To resolve &#8220;<strong>Invalid state<\/strong>&#8221; error message, ensure <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support-students\/enable-your-computer-for-blackboard\/#Check-your-browser-and-enable-third-party-cookies\">third party cookies<\/a> are allowed, and prevent cross site tracking is disabled (for Safari or Blackboard app)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>Contact <a href=\"https:\/\/uor.topdesk.net\/tas\/public\/ssp\/content\/serviceflow?unid=65a905b408514066ae982d8ae3ce252b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IT Service Desk<\/a> if you experience technical issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"practice\">Online Exam Practice areas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Practice areas have been created for students to help familiarise with different modes of submission, and to identify and resolve potential technical issues in advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To access practice area<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Log in to Blackboard as usual.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open &#8220;Online Exams Practice Area&#8221; from the list of courses or use search to find the course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you don&#8217;t see the Practice area, please contact your Support Centre for assistance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-ast-global-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-ast-global-color-5-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"advice\">Know location of exam folder and submission point in Blackboard course<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Open Blackboard course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scroll down to &#8220;Assessment&#8221; area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will find all information and guidance in the &#8220;<strong>Important Exam Information<\/strong>&#8221; folder (<strong>(a)<\/strong> in image). Please read through all the instructions carefully before you start your exam.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For each exam there will be a folder named &#8220;<strong>Online Exam<\/strong> [title of your exam]&#8221;, <strong>(b)<\/strong> in image. This folder will be visible but not be available to you until the start date and time of your exam. You will see a padlock icon and the text &#8220;Content isn&#8217;t available&#8221; before and after the exam time and date.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The text below the folder will give the date and time the exam folder will open and close. From the panel in Blackboard click <strong>Launch<\/strong>. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Upload<\/td><td>Turnitin will only except one document per submission point. <strong>Insert <\/strong>any images of handwritten work to your word document, see <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support-students\/capturing-and-inserting-images-into-a-document-for-online-submission\/\">Capture and insert images into a Word document for online submission<\/a>.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>File size limit<\/td><td>Turnitin has a 100mb file size limit.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Preview submission<\/td><td>In Turnitin click <strong>Upload and Review<\/strong>, this will allow you to preview your document, check that it is the correct version of your exam answer. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Submit<\/td><td>You will need to <strong>Submit to Turnitin<\/strong> as a final step in uploading your document. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Receipts<\/td><td>Turnitin receipts can be downloaded after a successful submission. From the panel in Blackboard click <strong>View Instructions<\/strong>. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Upload<\/td><td>Drag and drop files into the box provide or click on the box, this will open the text editor allowing you to attach files. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>File size limit<\/td><td>Blackboard has a 250mb file size limit. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Preview submission<\/td><td>Once you have uploaded the file you will be able to preview it. Check it is the right file. From the panel in Blackboard click <strong>Start attempt<\/strong>. Click Start Timer. If you have extra time due to reasonable adjustments this will be added to the time showing on your timer.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Upload<\/td><td>For essay questions you will have access to the text editor and can cut and paste your answer or attach a file, check to see if the question stipulates where to type or attach your response. For MCQ questions, select the correct answer.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>During the Test<\/strong><\/td><td>The progress bar at the top of the screen will track your progress through the questions. You can hide the timer if you find it distracting. It is possible to Save and Close during the test, the timer will continue while the test is closed. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Submit<\/td><td> Test will be set to <strong>automatically submit<\/strong> when the timer runs out. Your exam has been uploaded at the point so you can take time to tag your questions.
