This guide relates only to assignments created using the new Turnitin LTI assignment tool.

If your department or module uses a coversheet for students to submit with their work you will notice that text in the coversheet will be included as a match in the similarity report.

The Exclude assignment template setting allows instructors to enter a template or coversheet that will be excluded from the similarity check.

Template Requirements

To view the Template requirements reveal the drop down window:

• Uploaded files must be less than 100MB
• Templates must have at least 20 words of text.
• Accepted file types for upload: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, WordPerfect, PostScript, PDF, HTML, RTF, OpenOffice (ODT), Hangul (HWP), and plain text.

Upload Template

Click Upload Template and select the coversheet or template that you wish to exclude from the similarity report.

The excluded assignment template will display and can be cleared and replace until a submission has been made to the assignment.

Create Custom Template

A second option is to create a template here in the Turnitin Assignment edit page.  This option allows you to add any text that needs to be excluded.  Type or paste the text into the text box and Save Template.

Clear Template

If you need to change or clear the template then click Clear Template and then upload the new one if needed.
