EMA Integration: How are marks sent from Blackboard to RISIS?

Once marks in the Blackboard Grade Centre have been Approved, they will be automatically sent to RISIS at the next scheduled extraction time.

Currently this happens at two-hourly intervals, at 5:00, 9:00, 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00, Monday-Friday.

You can also choose to Extract Grades, which will send marks immediately to RISIS.
This cannot be undone, so please be sure that everything is in order before pressing Extract Grades.

Helpful tip! When we first switched the EMA integration on there were technical reasons for telling administrators to use Approve Grades, and that also gave a safety net for errors at a time when the system was very new to everyone.

Now that technical issues around Extract Grades have been resolved, and everyone is much more familiar with the system, most Programme Administration teams use Extract Grades as that fits better with their workflow – it means you can send the marks from Blackboard and go straight to RISIS to apply any late penalties etc.

For details of the process see Grade Approval and Transfer – approving marks for transfer to RISIS.

Before marks reach RISIS, they are processed by the Enterprise Service Bus, which identifies any errors. Erroneous marks are rejected, and details are included in the daily Grade Import Exception report.
