Therefore, it is advised to <strong>provide asynchronous delivery where possible.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Delivering teaching and learning<\/h2>\n<p>Access to Blackboard and the students&#8217; experience is dependent on their computer set up, speed of their internet connection and location. So students should be able to access<\/p><ul><li>Blackboard Learn<\/li><li>Blackboard Collaborate Ultra<\/li><li>Turnitin<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support\/YuJa\/\">YuJa<\/a> Learning Capture system<\/li><li>MS Teams<\/li><\/ul><p>However the quality of access may vary greatly, dependent on the student's individual circumstances.<\/p><h3>Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT)<\/h3><p>University of Reading programmes delivered in partnership with BIT are recorded in RISIS, and have courses on the main University Blackboard system. These Blackboard courses have CA in their name and course code<br \/>e.g.\u00a0AC109-20-1CA\u00a0Introduction to Business (CA) (2020\/21)<\/p><h3>Guangdong\u00a0University of Foreign Studies<\/h3><p>The MA English Language Education delivered in Guangdong is set up in RISIS, and is delivered via courses\u00a0 on the main University Blackboard system<br \/>e.g.\u00a0EDM084-20-1MOD\u00a0 Second Language Teaching and Learning (2020\/21)<\/p><h3>Nanjing University of Science and Technology (NUIST)<\/h3><p>NUIST has its own Blackboard system for courses delivered in Nanjing as part of the NUIST Reading Academy. The NUIST Blackboard system is entirely separate from the main University of Reading Blackboard platform. It is administered by staff employed by NUIST. Therefore students may need to switch between the browser view and the app as needed.\u00a0To check which content is supported in the Blackboard App please see the Blackboard Help page\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/help.blackboard.com\/Learn\/Instructor\/Course_Content\/Mobile_Friendly_Courses\/Supported_Course_Content_in_Blackboard_App\">Supported Course Content in the Blackboard App<\/a>.<\/p><p>Some students using WiFi or Mobile Data connections may experience internet speed related issues. Where possible, we recommend students use a wired internet connection available through desktop \/ laptop functionality.<\/p><p>If using an Android phone, students may not have access to the PlayStore in China to download the Blackboard App. Therefore, we recommend using the Blackboard through the device browser.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"ea-card sp-ea-single\"><h3 class=\"ea-header\"><a class=\"collapsed\" id=\"ea-header-65452\" role=\"button\" data-sptoggle=\"spcollapse\" data-sptarget=\"#collapse65452\" aria-controls=\"collapse65452\" href=\"#\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\"><i aria-hidden=\"true\" role=\"presentation\" class=\"ea-expand-icon eap-icon-ea-expand-plus\"><\/i> Blocked websites<\/a><\/h3><div class=\"sp-collapse spcollapse spcollapse\" id=\"collapse65452\" data-parent=\"#sp-ea-6545\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"ea-header-65452\"> <div class=\"ea-body\"><p>Some sites are blocked in China. This includes Google and\u00a0<strong>YouTube<\/strong> - so\u00a0if your UK course relies on any YouTube content you will need to rethink this when planning delivery in China.<\/p><p><strong>Turnitin\u00a0<\/strong>is available in China (including via the NUIST Blackboard system), although users may experience issues if their internet connection is slow or unreliable.<\/p><p>If you are thinking of\u00a0 using other third party tools, such as Campus Pack, it will be necessary to confirm with colleagues in China that access to the service is not blocked.<\/p><p>Content from some publishers may not be accessible in China and other overseas territories because of licensing restrictions.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"ea-card sp-ea-single\"><h3 class=\"ea-header\"><a class=\"collapsed\" id=\"ea-header-65453\" role=\"button\" data-sptoggle=\"spcollapse\" data-sptarget=\"#collapse65453\" aria-controls=\"collapse65453\" href=\"#\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\"><i aria-hidden=\"true\" role=\"presentation\" class=\"ea-expand-icon eap-icon-ea-expand-plus\"><\/i> Internet speed, reliability and file size<\/a><\/h3><div class=\"sp-collapse spcollapse spcollapse\" id=\"collapse65453\" data-parent=\"#sp-ea-6545\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"ea-header-65453\"> <div class=\"ea-body\"><p>While China has the largest number of internet users in the world, internet connectivity and speed can be poor and\/or inconsistent. You can use VLC Player (available via <a href=\"https:\/\/appsanywhere.reading.ac.uk\">Apps Anywhere<\/a>) to convert files e.g. from WAV to MP3.<\/li><li>Keep your audio files short - if necessary split a longer recording into several 10-15 minute chunks.<\/li><\/ul><h3>Images in Office and Acrobat files<\/h3><ul><li>High quality images in Word, PowerPoint or PDF files can significantly increase file size. Please compress your images before uploading to Blackboard.
