Your laptop, phone and tablet typically have an inbuilt mic and camera, however, better audio is achieved when using a headset.<\/p><p>-\u00a0<strong>Please note<\/strong>: You may need to move the mic closer or further away from your mouth - do a quick audio check by making a short recording and playing it back to yourself!<\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"602\"><strong>Webcam<\/strong>\u00a0(if you want to record yourself on camera). Position so audience can see your expression, some viewers find it helpful to lip read as you talk. <a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-gb\/article\/record-your-screen-in-powerpoint-0b4c3f65-534c-4cf1-9c59-402b6e9d79d0\">Microsoft PowerPoint recorder<\/a> or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-gb\/help\/17444\/windows-camera-app-webcams-help\">Microsoft Camera app<\/a> can be used to record a 'talking head' (shoulders and head in shot).<\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"602\"><strong>Decide which tool you will use to make your recording.<\/strong> For options, see: <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support\/2019\/10\/15\/personal-capture-tools-available-in-microsoft-office-and-from-third-party-providers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Personal Capture tool available in Microsoft Office and from third party providers<\/a><\/p><h2><\/h2><h2>Important!<\/h2><p>Ensure you know how to set up your software, the following video gives a tour.<\/p><p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"980\" height=\"552\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HC46n9qH3Rc?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-GB&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"602\"><strong>Clear your screen\u00a0of applications \/ private documents not needed for the recording<\/strong>\u00a0(especially important if sharing your screen). You may wish to turn off email notifications also.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"602\"><strong>Find a quiet space\u00a0with wired internet (preferred) or WIFI connection.<\/strong>\u00a0Turn off your phone and put a sign on your office door.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"602\"><strong>Optional: Create slides\u00a0to accompany your audio<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 as a minimum you may like to prepare a welcome slide, giving information about the video topic. Microsoft PowerPoint has an inbuilt recording function to <a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-gb\/article\/record-a-slide-show-with-narration-and-slide-timings-0b9502c6-5f6c-40ae-b1e7-e47d8741161c\">capture audio narration over slides<\/a>.<\/p><p>If your PowerPoint contains a video, upload this separately and direct students when to watch it.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"602\"><strong>Check your audio before recording!<br \/><\/strong>If you are too close to the mic or too far away the sound may be affected. Recording in a small room without background noise is advisable. When playing back an audio test, remove headset and play through computer speakers for a more accurate representation of audio quality.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"ea-card sp-ea-single\"><h3 class=\"ea-header\"><a class=\"collapsed\" id=\"ea-header-65023\" role=\"button\" data-sptoggle=\"spcollapse\" data-sptarget=\"#collapse65023\" aria-controls=\"collapse65023\" href=\"#\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\"><i aria-hidden=\"true\" role=\"presentation\" class=\"ea-expand-icon eap-icon-ea-expand-plus\"><\/i> During the recording:<\/a><\/h3><div class=\"sp-collapse spcollapse \" id=\"collapse65023\" data-parent=\"#sp-ea-6502\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"ea-header-65023\"> <div class=\"ea-body\"><ul><li>Aim for a <strong>conversational tone<\/strong> rather than descriptive. Do you need to add a description? If you have embedded the video, have you <strong>included the original file for students to download<\/strong>.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"59\"><\/td><td width=\"602\">Is your video <strong>accessible to all of your students<\/strong> \u2013 do you need a transcript? Youtube creates an auto-transcript which is editable and downloadable. Alternatively, you may feel the lecture notes and\/or a written summary would suffice.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"59\"><\/td><td width=\"602\">If you have recorded a series of short videos, <strong>carefully name each file<\/strong> before uploading (so students can easily sort\/organise when downloading multiple files!)<\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"59\"><\/td><td width=\"602\">Have you added <strong>additional resources<\/strong>, such as lecture notes, the PowerPoint file and links to further reading? Are these <strong>located near to the video<\/strong>? Do you need to <strong>publish\/acknowledge any copyright information<\/strong>?<\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"59\"><\/td><td width=\"602\">Do you intend to set up a short automated quiz for students to formatively assess themselves? Make sure this is set up before you release the video resource.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td width=\"59\"><\/td><td width=\"602\"><strong>Decide how you might \u2018release\u2019 videos to students<\/strong> \u2013 will you display all content or will you allow students to \u2018unlock\u2019 more videos or additional content?
